You could have a look on HU and see if anyone can advise from BHF and also there may be a heart valve group but it probably is in much smaller in numbers, but BHF website could provide you with some advice. You mag have been there of course! They are an excellent organisation, and I’m sure they’ll have a helpline. Always best to speak to the relevant expert ... cardiologist though. If you’ve seen one already/had a scan and not had things explained properly you can ask again. Or your GP could maybe help explain. Good luck.

Meant to add, my husband had a mitral heart valve small leak but the cardiologist didn’t want to do anything but he has been scanned several times and 24 hour BP monitoring and blood tests. AStress causing AFib was the cause but as he no longer leaves home at 5.30am for a 4-5 hour day commute and a 9 hour work day his stress levels are much better.

quite often nothing! It really depends how significant it is, so you need to discuss with your doctors.

I've had family members with leaky heart valves. Treatment differs depending on the level & your general health. You'd be best asking your Cardio specialist or if you've been seen & diagnosed (which I take it you have with asking the question) I'd ask your GP to go through things with you so you have a clearer idea.

I hope it's not affecting you too much.

They mostly monitor you at first especially if it isn't having too much impact on your fitness. That can continue for some years.

Treatment has become more active since the last revision of the NICE guidelines. You may need to have the valve repaired either cleverly via the blood vessels, or, if it's more complicated, an open heart operation, which seems to be no big deal these days - isn't that amazing!

I've a friend who has recently had this done and it's made a big difference to her exercise capacity (once she had recovered from the operation and done all the rehabilitation exercise programme.)

I was told I had a leaky heart valve, but so insignificant there was more risk in doing something about it than leaving it. That was 20 years ago. I take medication for my congestive heart failure which was diagnosed about 5 years after the leaky valve. Though I have been carted off to the hospital a fair few times over the years, that has been due to SVTA rather than the leak. Suggest you do what has been suggested here, get your GP to take notice and look at the BHF site, very informative and helpful. Good luck.

I have a murmur. Was told it was a leaky heart valve. No need for intervention at the moment.

I should have asked more questions but hope no future procedure needed 🤞🤞
