Toilet Flush

I have Ra. I have been having difficulty in pressing down the flush on our toilet cistern. So my husband had a search on the internet for any thing that might help. (I also have diabetes and have very sore finger tips from prick testing twice a day) So he found Eezy-Flush from Oliver Scott Consulting. And it is magic. I can now flush the toilet myself again! Check it out. It retails at £20 plus postage.

Now that is a good gadget, most people wouldn't think twice with a toilet flush but I get the sore fingers bit 👍

Thanks AC! I was very interested too, but couldn't locate the product from the details given, which makes 2 ninnies ( if that's the correct plural)! Hopefully mickey1 will put us out of our misery

Well……I tried phoning this morning at 0915…only to get a robotic voice telling me “we are not available now…..please leave your name etc”

Sorry…I’m just off out…will try an email directed to the loo flushing gadget department & see if that gets me anywhere.

I wonder how many hours people waste waiting for companies to call back?

Aaagh!🤯 It's enough to drive us crackers! Why is everything such a battle nowadays??

I've just followed the link Vonniesims helpfully provided. After a bit of protracted faffing, I finally found info about the item on there. It seems to look as if it can only be fitted on cisterns that have the flush mechanism on the top of the cistern (ie. a button to press in). The standard button seems to be replaced with a much larger button that's slightly raised, presumably making it much easier to press down on. Looks quite useful if you have the right kind of cistern. Unfortunately, ours is a (probably) old-fashioned cistern with a lever handle flush on the front, so no good for our loo. When I tried to check stockists with this link though, I still couldn't get anywhere, although it did confirm it should be around £20. Hope this helps!

Thankfully my loo is suitable…Now I know such a gadget exists I SHALL find it!

Haha - lucky you, having the right kind of flush!! Good luck tracking down the elusive gadget .......!

Kags, we changed our front facing lever handle for a dual button flush in the downstairs loo at our previous home. I think ours & the internal gubbins came from B&Q but I would think you'd get them at most plumbers merchants, maybe even Amazon.

Kags1068 profile image
Kags1068 in reply to nomoreheels

Thanks for that NMH. The problem is, a button flush is even more awkward than the lever handle as I can't press buttons in as I've got a number of ruptured extensor tendons so my hands don't straighten out (just curled in little balls), and my dominant thumb will only bend backwards, not forwards. My dad has suggested changing it to an automatic flush which I think is a button, but requires almost no pressing? Not sure. Bit of a Hobson's choice really as so many things are for us!! Glad you found one that worked for you

Mmmm ....... interesting. Not seen this kind before. I'll have a proper nose on Screwfix. Thanks very much.😊

This was like we fitted, just the button on ours was round not square. it may even have been from Screwfix, my h uses them & Toolstation & if all else fails B&Q (Screwfix is part of the same company that owns B&Q but is “trade” so cheaper).

Thanks for that - very useful. I shall do some digging. I'll also tell my mum, she's an expert on places like screwfix!! 😉

there’s this, available on Amazon too. It doesn’t attach to the button so could be useful for other uses too.

Glad you like them..my digital dishwasher drives me crazy…I have been using it for over a year now …..and it seems you need to press a different sequence every time….& it’s so quiet…I have to bend down to listen to see if it has actually started. But I wouldn’t revert to a washing up bowl!

So many other issues for RA sufferers that seem to get overlooked by the manufacturers. Fiddly 'press down and twist' bottles, child-proof washing detergent boxes, etc., etc.

You are so right…even down to increasing the strength of the silver foil on pill packs. Apparently some genius decided it was too easy to “pop a pill”, * somebody “might” take an over dose.

I think if I wanted to do that - brute strength + a pair of scissors would solve the problem!

Are you able to contemplate getting one of those sensors for blood sugar monitoring rather than constantly pricking fingers? they are free on the NHS.

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply to cathie

In England it can be dependent on GP (or rather the CCG) if you can get a glucose monitor (Freestyle Libre type) on the NHS. There are specifics, how often you inject insulin, how often you need to test & such. My h is type 2, due to pancreatitis so secondary diabetes type 3c actually, & been offered one. He doesn’t think they’d suit him as he's sensitive to adhesives &, from the info he's been given & links provided, he doesn’t feel they'd be as accurate for him. He has a tendency to be hyperglycaemic, unless he skips a meal which after a horrendous experience he ensures he doesn’t.

cathie profile image
cathie in reply to nomoreheels

Here in Scotland I had to fulfill certain criteria too - injecting insulin, prepared to check regularly and an hour's 'training' session. That was pre-pandemic. I can see the point about being allergic to adhesives, my local pharmacist had to abandon his sensor because of that. Worth knowing about though! I still keep the kit to do finger pricking if necessary.

nomoreheels profile image

Certainly worth asking your GP about if it's not been offered. You never know.

Do you know which department at Oliver Scott your husband contacted?

There are pages & pages under that name.

The gadget would be really useful for me right now as I’m have a CT Decompression in a few weeks & no way can I flush my en suite loo with my left hand.

I think maybe I’ll keep scaring my neighbours dashing past the glass front door to No 2 loo in my bra & pants 👙

I have OA affected fingers (no cartilage) & for when they're particularly painful I have a pencil with the rubber at one end that works brilliantly. Our double flushes are flat, not sure if they'd work quite as easily on dome shaped ones.

Can I ask, which fingers do you prick? Just asking with you saying you have sore fingertips with testing. My h tests 6 times a day & was taught to never use his index finger or thumb & never the tip, always prick the side of your finger. Also, make sure you're adjusting the pressure on your lancet pen so it's not too high & ouchy. My h has his on number 3 but it goes as high as 6. Yours may be different but adjust it so it isn’t painful, if doesn’t need to be. Also, you may know as it's pretty obvious, use alternate hands when testing.

Thank you…I think I have it sorted.

But right now I am glued to BG News as it seems our Home Secretary has resigned,& there is a queue following her!

Thanks for posting this Mickey1. Please call Oliver Scott Consulting on 0208 444 8800 if you are interested, and leave a message for Tony Scott. He designed the system for his mother, and says he holds the patent. There should be a link on Living Made Easy but this is broken and he will look into it.

Please note that NRAS do not endorse or recommend particular products, but just wanted to give some clarity on how to order if you interested.
