You won’t be able to get anti virals if you don’t live there.I go to Golf del Sur regularly & that is what my friends there tell me. Being vulnerable in UK has no equivalent on Tenerife.
Your best action is to speak to your travel insurance company & ask them what arrangements they have in place for travellers who contract Covid whilst visiting there.
Thank you so much for your very prompt reply. I do appreciate it very much for taking the time to reply. I will definitely get in touch with my travel insurance tomorrow and see what they say. Appreciate your advice x
Madly envious..I’m still unpacking from moving house 13 months ago.Word of advice to everyone….downsize possessions before downsizing house…Large houses into tiny houses take forever to sort out …..especially as I moved during lockdown…..so trips abroad have to take a back seat!Have a wonderful time….I may just make G del S for 🎄 Christmas!
I had covid when on holiday in Fuerteventura. Although would have been eligible for anti viral in UK was no way iof getting them there . While the doctor was happy I wasn't too unwell there seemed to be no process for accessing preventative anti viral treatmen despite being clinically vulnerable. Wasbasically told to go to hospital if I got worse. Just my experience and thankfully wasn't too unwell. The 5 vaccinationvaccinations must have worked!
unfortunately your CEV status does not apply abroad, so you will not be able to access antivirals. Also here in the U.K. there is no process in place for issuing antivirals as a precaution or preventative. My father in law lives in Spain and was extremely poorly in March, and actually passed away. I looked into access to antivirals, especially as I was going to be in a large group of mourners. I ended up not travelling, as my mother in law said they’d never forgive theirselves if I got covid. Also despite my FIL being on chemotherapy, he didn’t qualify for the antivirals when he got Covid, they don’t seem to have purchased similar numbers to the U.K.
I would ensure your travel insurance is aware your in the high risk group, and ensure they’ll cover you. I had a friend who when she informed her insurers she was high risk, they wouldn’t cover covid, as in their mind the risk was too high.
I currently have hubby with covid, and trying to keep my distance. We are due to have a midweek break in a cottage in Yorkshire from next Monday, to celebrate my mums birthday. We haven’t seen much of family since initial lockdown, so desperately keen to go. We shall see. Good luck
Really appreciate your reply and so sorry to hear about your Father in law! Really trust you can avoid Covid and that your husband will feel much better soon, to allow you both to get on your wee break away. Thanks again for your reply 😊
I don't think you'll get them and with high protection things have moved on so do we really need them? I'm afraid is it concerns you I would think twice about traveling.
I had covid in France and was able to access antivirals on the basis of being immunosuppressed. I did have a GHIC card, which helped. The actual antivirals were free.
My insurer was absolutely useless.
I would advise checking what process is used in the country you are travelling to. In Europe the GHIC card covers you for the same treatment as residents.
Thank you so much for the helpful reply, can I ask if you got the antivirals through a GP or through a hospital? I have a GHIC card and will take it with me. Hope the antivirals worked well for you and that you are feeling much better 😊
Yes, it was through a gp. I am convinced that without my vaccinations plus the antivirals, I might have been dancing with death!! I am recovered now, apart from some lingering fatigue. Thanks for your good wishes, and hope that you have a wonderful covid free holiday xx
once again, thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m so glad you are feeling a lot better and trust the lingering fatigue goes! Yes, I’m so thankful for all my vaccinations and will just be as careful as I can with wearing masks etc. 😊
