NETTLE STINGS

Bit of a strange one but since being on imraldi I think (I’m saying think because I could be totally wrong ) that while weeding in my garden without gloves I pulled some nettles out and they stung me , usually it’s a little pain for ten mins or so but now I’m in pain for days and it bloody hurts , is this down to meds ?

So it’s down to the biological meds ?

It is also possible that continuing exposure to nettle stings has sensitised you to the nettles. I normally wear gloves when I'm gardening. It is now a general recommendation that all gardeners wear gloves when working with compost. There have been cases of serious illness linked to compost.

It’s also down to the time of year! Nice young fresh nettles are at peak ‘sting’.

I didn't know that.

I have no scientific proof of this, just years of gardening and being stung!

That is interesting 🧐

I sometimes think it depends on the type of nettle and also the time of year as to how potent they are. After I found I was getting stung through normal gardening gloves when they got wet I discovered that the blue surgical gloves I wore at the start of lockdown are perfect for gardening. They are waterproof, very light to wear, I like how you can feel what you are doing and they are easy to pull off at the end of a gardening session and if you do it carefully they can last for ages.

Great idea. I often struggle with gloves when potting up and sewing seeds. I will try this. I always leave the nettles to my husband 😂

That sounds painful, I know exactly what you mean as when I garden now with gloves on if I get stung it hurt for a day and comes out in welts, I never used to have that, I'm on hydroxychloroquine and Methotrexate.

It’s definitely not because of the nettles when I used to get stung it would hurt for a hour or so then go but now it’s there for three days . It must b the biological meds .

Oh yes, I have experienced the same thing! I got stung in 3 places on my hands through my gardening gloves on Saturday. It was so painful, it felt like I'd burnt my hands on a hot oven! I washed them thoroughly, slathered Anthisan cream on and taped them up with plasters. I also took antihistamine medication and paracetamol. It took about 24 hours to calm down... I've only been this sensitive to nettle stings for the last couple of years, so it could be my biologic. I'll try to remember to ask my Rheumatologist about it next time I see them.

I was told on biologics to take care of sunshine 🌞
