More news on my lungs..........

Good morning everyone and i hope you are all well. A lovely day is coming and next week it is going to be really warm and i for one will welcome the warm weather.

I rang the surgery about my CT scan and it appears i have nodules on my right lung possibly caused by the latent tb i had about three years ago.. I did do a quick look about this problem. The dr said it doesn't look like i have cancer, whoch is good news at least. He is going to get further advice about the scan. He is also referring me back to the respiratory team as he thinks the problems i have is furth up my resoiratory tract.

Have alovely day everyone.xxxxx

Just as well i am a sensible person or i would be worried sick as i have just looked up about lung nodules. RA is a cause and steroids are one of the treatments. Well well well something else to add to the list. lol. xxxx

I was told the very same too Sylvi re RA and nodules as my respiratory consultant told me when he said he wanted to do a CT to check if I had them due to RA which he said could happen due to rheumatoid inflammation. My CTs were clear and my reason for chronic bronchitis is low Ig’s due to Rtx. I hope yours can disappear with time as he said they can do that too. You’ve reason enough to have them with your past TB. I hope they can give you something to help re the steroids. xx

I already am on 5mgs of steroids a day now darling thank you for caring. xxx

The respiratory consultant may be able to increase or add/do something? I’ve just had my 25th lot of abx for bronchitis 🤨 but it’s not infective. It’s caused by the effects of Rtx on my Ig’s and I hope once I’ve started a new biologic it’s not going to zap my immunoglobulins quite so much bit of will still be a high spec immunosuppressant. I’ll be taking low dose prophylactic abx alongside to calm things down. Crazy as my RA has been perfectly under control for 8 years. 🤷‍♀️ We have to keep going and trying to do all we can to make our health the best it can be. Hope you have a lovely weekend. That Bob is steady too. xxxx

Be very wary of long term low level abx, especially doxycycline. Can cause serious long term allergy effects

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to Philjania

I’m being monitored thanks. I have tried not to take them and ended up with much worse bronchitis/pneumonia, so that’s not an option either with being quite immunosuppressed. I’m changing from Doxy to something else to see if more effective soon.

Hi Neonkittie,Please could you tell me what you are referring to by Rtx? Also do you mean by ‘low lg’s’?

Perhaps it’s an abbreviation? I’m interested in learning about Chronic Bronchitis and would appreciate your meanings in full so that I can look them up.

Many thanks,

T57

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to Tempo57

Hi Tempo, Rtx is Rituximab. Ig’s are immunoglobulins and it’s probably better to Google “low Ig’s” and see an official explanation to help you.

Thank for your your explanation. T57

Just Google re the Immunoglobulins Tempo, as it is easier to see everything and links to the info that way. x

PS…that’s helpful and there’s load of information

Immunology.org might be helpful too. The British Society for Immunology’s website. It has some “bite sized“ sections where info is well explained.

Good morning Sylvi , Yes the warmer weather will be welcome for us all . Results of scans are always a bit of a mix up of feelings , but I suppose at least you have some answers now. 😊

rabbits65 profile image
rabbits65 in reply to sylvi

I think your hair is a lovely colour, cheerful . Yes you must be very careful with your chest. My mother used to have chest troubles and couldn’t go out in certain weathers. She died aged 94 and she never expected to live that long. She had very bad asthma as a child she hardly ever went to school . In those days there wasn’t the medicine we have got today .

sylvi in reply to rabbits65

I too have asthma Rabbits65. One thing is i am not worried about it, it just give me answers to why i am coughing like i am and still bringing up phlegm.xxxxx

I had several nodules picked up on a PET scan about 5yr ago, and they weren’t concerned. Had a CT scan a year ago and was referred to respiratory as I was told I had pulmonary fibrosis. After spending 7 months believing I had PF they then said the Brompton had reviewed the scan, and the scarring in my lungs is caused by inhaling acid from my stomach. I also have Atelectasis which is pockets of air sacs that have collapsed due to my ribs being fused and having no chest expansion. Thankfully she says the nodules are no different to 5yr ago. Her main worry is the aspiration of acid can trigger pulmonary fibrosis, so I have a strong PPI to take to try and prevent further damage. Doesn’t help that I have a hiatus hernia due to the diaphragm being weak from rib fusion. Hopefully my experience with the nodules reassures you. Take care 🤗

Thank you Maureen, i am not worried too much about it at least i know why i am struggling to breathe and i hope they will sort it out in time. xxx

Well at least they have found something definite. Hopefully they can fix it.Was trying ti figure out what sort of bush you have photographed and come to the conclusion that it is probably forsythia peeking through another shrub but I’m not sure what the other shrub is. Enjoy this lovely weather ☀️

sylvi profile image
sylvi in reply to Fruitandnutcase

Its not a Firsythia darling i know that much.xxxx

Fruitandnutcase profile image

That’s very interesting - so the yellow flowers are part of that shrub? I’ve never seen anything like that before - just thought it was forsythia peeking through another shrub. I’ll need to get my thinking cap on. 😉

Hi Sylvi, it is always worrying when they mention nodules in your lungs. My mum has RA and had the same result a few years ago. Depending where they are etc they might want to remove them or just keep an eye on them with regular scans xx

sylvi profile image
sylvi in reply to Gillybob19

Thank you darling I asked the drs to put urgent on the letter being sent to the hospital. xxxx

helixhelix profile image

I have quite a few nodules in my lungs. The doctors told me that it was impossible to tell what caused them, but they are fairly stable so I shouldn’t worry.

I did have TB years ago, plus I smoked and have had pneumonia and bronchitis many times. Any of these could have caused them as well as RA. I will never know..

(I don’t think latent TB causes them, as being latent means it is not active)

sylvi profile image
sylvi in reply to helixhelix

I know that darling, it just seems everything is stacked against me all the time. One thing is i am not worried about it darling thats for sure. I have my daughter's garden to sort out while i feel welll enough to do it. This weather has helped me no end. Thank you for caring about me and thank me for telling me what has happened to you darling. xxxx

hi Sylvi, its good that you are being referred back to respiratory team. Keep smiling and doing a little here and there. How's your daughter settling in to their house? xxx

sylvi profile image
sylvi in reply to Flor1rence

I went over there yesterday afternoon wiith a car full of stuff and now thank goodness the flat is empty and cleaned ready to be viewed by the people who do the letting. She popped in last night before she went home to sort my tv out upstairs as we had to have a new router and it knocked the tv out up there. She is shattered bless her.Ian and his dad has been busy putting a new bath in at their home. I took four pink plants over there like carnations and i put them in the garden for her.xxxx

Interesting. I have Stills Disease which manifests as RA and the treatment was steroids although only for a few years as luckily it was a single attack.I have swollen cartilage in my ribs and chest from the RA and have had several X-rays checking for other things including TB (it was on the rise when I lived and worked in London 20 years ago ). I did not have TB but was warned about RA nodules as a cause.

Is there no end to the damage AI illnesses inflict on us.

Hello Sweetheart, yes, another thing to add to the list. I've nodules on my lungs and was told they were caused by the RA drugs, but luckily there's been no change in them for the last 6 years. So maybe not something to worry about. I wish it will be the same for you. xxx
