I have recently come to live in a Care Home and since then my skin has become unbearably dry & itchy. Dry eyes are particularly sore . I had to come off my MXT for 3 weeks recently because of a hospital procedure, and wonder whether that has exacerbated the position. I read about a condition ( begins with an S, cannot pronounce it)) which can cause dryness of skin for those of us with a compromised immune system. I feel quite desperate....PS I have ordered a Humidifier for my room

Do you mean Psoriasis? I think whatever you mean you should ask for a visit from the GP that gives medical cover for your home…or your own GP if he is still your doctor.
Your dry skin could just be the central heating drying out the air…& could be helped by a proprietary brand of body moisturiser….but it’s best to get some professional advice before it becomes so bad you break the skin by scratching, which could lead to infection.
Your doctor will also advise on your dry eyes.
I think a humidifier will help …even if only a little. ….& it’s best to deal with the conditions as soon as possible.
I do hope you get it cleared up quickly.
I find Aveeno products good
Hi Qags. I wonder if you mean Sjogren's Syndrome - it may or may not be the case but I have put a link here for you to read about it and I hope you can get it sorted.
Pear’s soap is really good for your skin. If you are using ‘communal’ hand-wash then you could be allergic/ be having a sensitive reaction. It could also be caused by the washing powder they use, so your clothes/ bedding/ towels etc. Try and drink lots of water, as hydration may be an issue, some places have the heating ramped up.

Is maybe what you are thinking of??
I get contact dermatitis when I stay away sometimes, which affects my eyes.

Good advice. Exactly my thoughts re clothes/bedding and washing detergent/products. x
May be best for the doctor to see first. Cetraben is used for dry skin conditions and I get mine on prescription.
I have stopped using soap, and use a washing “oil” instead, and hypoallergenic laundry stuff.
Sorry to hear that. I have started itching and scratching for no reason. I use an ‘egg’ in washing machine so have not changed anything! Anyway I’m finding an emollient wash used most of the time is helping.?GP prescribed on my say so; no diagnosis as such. I miss my Smellies so once or twice a week allow myself to indulge.
Dermalo bath lotion is very good and also Unguentum M cream . Both can be obtained from the doctors . Both can be bought online . I use on my itchy skin. E45 itch relief cream can be bought at the chemist . An Antihistamine tablet will help too.
Definitely speak to your GP and get a diagnosis before trying anything and everything as it might be something as simple as changing your washing powder ( as you only started getting it when you moved to the care home) Dr Google will always come up with the worst it could be so try not to self diagnose and call your doctor. Let us know how you go 😊
I also have very dry skin & have so many allergies to soap etc I am prescribed Doublebase Gel. You can buy a small tube over the counter at Boots but if like me you use it continuously then best to ask your GP. So basically you could try it first & see what you think. Probably the atmosphere is different to what you had at home. More heating drier air etc. sjogrens is usually diagnosed by an optician or ophthalmologist however it could also be down to current air conditions ie dry eyes. Maybe a pharmacist could advise.
As others have said if this fails then ask your GP. X
Could be the central heating? Speak to your doc next time you see them for their advice. They may suggest eye drops to help you 😉
Others have offered info I'll just offer as you've changed your home abode, is the heating high in your room? Always found high heating dried my skin and sinuses, any way to turn it down a notch?
