Covid Infusion

From taking the lateral flow test to speaking to the GP this morning I have amazingly just got back from having an antiviral infusion, It took about 30 minutes then you have to wait for 30 minutes more and my headache has gone. It does make people hot and it certainly did me but it was painless and the nurses was with me all the time. The whole thing was well organised and they said expect to feel tired tonight and I do but tomorrow will be much better. So for anyone thinking we have been left alone it is not true, The use said that this week they had done 120 infusion and no one so far had had any reactions. You get given a lot of paperwork and still have to isolate but things are actually so much better organised than at first might appear to be the case. So where's the Quality Street ???? lol xxxx

That’s great news for you and will also be such a relief for alot of people who have been concerned about not hearing anything about the antivirals. Get well soon🤗

I don’t know much about this ? So if you get Covid do you have to contact gp for this antiviral thing and then they say whether you qualify ?

No, there have been posts about who is eligible but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to ring and check what to do when/if you get it.

Do you take a LF test regularly..or was there a reason you took it?

medway-lady profile image

I had a headache, sore throat and cough. Not major just a tickle and persistant irritation. Then a bit of head ache.

Excellent news, hope you recover quickly now. I assume gp contacted you after you registered your LFT. That should speed things up for people. Impressive given LFTs only started being accepted on the 10th 👍. Rest up and enjoy the quality street

Just a quick add the infusion seems to have worked as still have the cough and didn't sleep well last night but the headache isn't so bad. I know it sounds weird but my nose is burning and I'm hot. But generally I don't feel too bad but and this is a huge but how people can say its a minor bug ?? they are mad. It's a nasty virus all right.

Thanks for the update ML.For what it is worth my son had a very bad first night with Covid, then things settled into a 'heavy cold'.

Stay cosy today and let us know how things go ?

Will do just lying around on the sofa today. I don't yet have a cold and the cough isn't too bad. Fingers crossed it. xxxx

Tim Spector mentioned the nose burning in one of his webinars, apparently they feel it could be due to sinus inflammation. My understanding is that the monoclonal antibodies prevent the virus replicating further, so it makes sense the symptoms you had are still there. I’m sure over the next few days things will improve for you. 🤗

It was called Xuvedy in the leaflet it says it attaches to the bit of spike protein that infects the lungs. My husband has today tested positive too, but he has no symptoms not even a mild headache ! typical ! Tesco are delivering tomorrow and I've plenty of food in so its now like being under house arrest. lol Apparently according to my husband he will get it worse as men just do get things worse. He said its a known fact !! cheeky man he's just making the most of an "official diagnosis" of illness. And he wants to watch a James Bond film this afternoon rather than the Olympics which I want to see. xxx

Oh my goodness he's just sneezed so needs lunch and paracetamol !

Runrig01 profile image
Runrig01 in reply tomedway-lady

😂😂 typical man. You dig your heels in and watch the olympics. Do you not have a laptop he can watch his bond movie on, I’m lucky hubby retreats to his study to watch things I’m not interested in 😂. Glad you are organised for the next week. Don’t be running round after your hubby, get him to pull his weight, sounds like your worse than him 🤗

I do indeed and honestly he's great fun even after all these years. So he's making me laugh about the fact that he gets to choose tea if he's making it , so its sausage sandwiches or bacon sandwiches. ! xx

Oshgosh profile image

My husband is the same with cooking. As. I don’t like bacon or sausage I end up with corn flakes or yogurt ‘ then he tells me I’m not eating properly !!

medway-lady profile image
medway-lady in reply toOshgosh

Yes and mine says what do you want for tea so I say steak and chips would be nice and he says sausages it is then. ! xx

Runrig01 profile image

😂❤️My hubby’s limitation is to anything fried. He does make me brunch or roll with lorne sausage at the weekend. We’re Scots so he misses his lorne sausage, so I have to order it in for him. If I was unable to cook he would live on rolls and sausage 😂

Hia medway lady,

Do you mind me asking what hospital you had your infusion in?

I'm close to Maidstone hospital, was it anywhere near there? I don't plan on catching covid but if it does happen it's good to know the hospitals near me are well versed. I've never had any infusions so sounds quite scary. I would still have it though, better than getting really sick or worse.

Has anyone had the Pfizer pill antiviral I wonder?

I had it done at Medway Maritime Hospital and my son lives in Loose. Medway have set the Covid drug administration block up in the car park. But its designated parking and free and was nice and warm on a cold night. I can honestly say the nurse and doctor were lovely and very chatty. It's painless just like having blood taken but they put a line in and in it goes in slowly after about 30 minutes its done then its just wait. They told me that so far they'd had no side effects and it worked well. Which it did. I didn't get a choice they said that they preferred the infusion as quicker to work and it stops the virus sticking to the lungs. I'd had 4 jabs all Phizer and it must be well organised as a new priority kit arrived last week to replace the one I used even though the antibody infusion was done before the PCR was returned back as positive. I've been asked I want to do antibody testing and am awaiting the kit to arrive. x
