Yes I have, and have had that in both hands for some time, even before my RA diagnosis. My consultant tells me in my case it's Osteoarthritis, not the RA causing it.

Yes, apparently mine is OA rather than RA - blinking painful though ☹️ x

Yes I got it a couple of years ago and was referred to a physio who told me it was osteoarthritis. A course of exercises and wearing a thumb splint for 6 weeks really helped, and now I only do the exercises as and when needed. I still have the splint but never use it now.

I have intermittent problems with my thumbs. I was referred to Occupational Therapy who made me some thumb splints. They are great. Very soft but just isolate the thumb so it can rest. You could ask rheumatology for a referral but they will probably want to see you first so good luck with that. It may be a while. I was also given wax baths which were quite hot but very soothing.

Several years ago I had this & was told it was gout. I was given blood tests that showed i had uric acid build up. I was given a course of tablets which cleared it up & I also have to take Allopurinol tablets every day.

Hi I have this problem in my left thumb. In my case it was caused by osteoarthritis. I had steroid injections for several years. The pain got worse and my thumb became bent down and round into my palm. Due to covid it got left so when I finally went to see the ortho consultant I had grade 4 osteoarthritis. I had surgery and they removed 2 badly damaged bones. I have no useful function in my thumb now and have pain in the wrist joints where the two bones were removed. Seek help and support before it becomes a big problem. Sorry for the doom and gloom. It is only my experience of this problem. Take care

I used to have this in my right thumb but I had surgery about 25 years ago where a plate was inserted to stabilise the joint. Occasionally get a bit of an ache when the weather is damp and cold but otherwise it's still going well.
