Hi is anyone on these two medications and getting Stomach aches/headaches and feeling nauseous? I have been placed on these 6 weeks ago and I'm not feeling great! Even thought at one stage that I had Covid symptoms. (Didn't/Don't as get tested daily for work!) Have got in touch with my Rheumy dept and waiting for them to get back to me...

Don’t soldier on if your doctor agrees the AA is causung your nausea. There are quite a few Biophosonates ….ask your doctor if you can try another one….or there is an injection….that lasts 6 months or a year.

Thanks for your reply! Rheumy have got back to me and I've rung my doctor to get a change. I really can't keep taking these 🤢

I don't know about the acid as I have CKD and its not allowed but do take AD Cal D3 the renal doctor prescribed chewy ones and I was fine the GP changed it to capsules and I get a bad upset tummy so renal team wrote to GP only to prescribe chewy ones. So it might be worth asking to change to chewy and see if you avoid the sickness etc. I was told Ad cal can cause sickness etc so this might be the same.

Thank you for your advice, much appreciated. Waiting for a call back from the doctor now.

Yes I take Adcal D too… I have them in ashtrays all over the house otherwise I forget to take them!

I had to change from alendronic acid to risedronic acid for similar symptoms. I also had to stop the risedronic acid too unfortunately. That was the end of bisphosphonates for me.

Just a thought… are you leaving two hours between taking your alendronic acid & Evacal D3? One more thing re Evacal D3, I don't know what flavours they're available in but when I was first prescribed Adcal D3 I was given fruit flavour. They made me so nauseous, even the smell of them, but the lemon flavour I’m fine with.

Hi thank you for your very informative reply. Yes I have set quite a regime of following the instructions to the letter and taking the calcium well after, mid morning. Waiting for a call back from the doctor, so hoping so change the meds ! Fingers crossed.!

Probably a pointless question but you are only taking alendronic acid once a week aren't you?

I really struggled with alendronic acid so was switched to an annual infusion which is so much easier. I still take the calcium/ vit D supplement but that is ok.

Hi Sue, yes I had an infusion 3 years ago and was ok with that, so hopefully I might be able to do that..I really can't get on with these tablets! Thank you for your reply. Regards

I was on the I fusion until 3 years ago the hospital stopped it said they have discovered thst more than 3 infusions causes serious problems with the jaw bone. I just accepted this but I worry about my bones.

Hi ...yes I think I will do the same, I was going to wait and see what the doc says.. but I feel quite nauseous this morning so haven't taken my alendronic.

I couldn’t tolerate either but the ADCAL was the worst gave me uncontrollable diarrhoea I’m ok with vit D on it’s own but can’t take calcium at all. Had to stop alendronic too due to side affects which were mainly jaw pain and headaches but haven’t had the problem since stopping them.

Yes I think that is what I will end up having to do! Rheumy said things should have settled down by now as it been 6weeks. Thank you for your reply.

I don't know about AA as its forbidden to people with CKD but Ad Cal can upset the tum. I've been taking it for years because of the CKD and GP changed the prescription from chewy to tablets(cheaper no doubt ) so I asked about it and upset tum is common with the tablets but not with chewy so changed back to chewy and all is well. x
