Rituximanb and operation.: Any idea how long will I... - NRAS
Rituximanb and operation.
I believe it is as least twelve weeks after infusion but do check with your Rheumatologist because it may depend on how long it usually takes to exit your system.
Yes, I was told that too that it’s best if you can do any ops right in the middle of the standard six month period most people usually have for repeating the infusion. I had an op early March 2020 and that needed GA and was 6 months after my Rtx. Then a small op early September 2021 only local anaesthetic and the previous Rtx was April so those were done 6 & 5 months after Rtx. I checked with both surgeon and rheumy. No problems with non healing. I healed very well.
Hi Bella
As Lolabridge has said, always best to check with your Rheumatologist or Surgeon as we can't give medical advice.
But, I'm on Rituxumab and needing surgery on my hand, I've been advised to wait 8-12 weeks after the infusion, this is because of the steroids as well which can affect our ability to heal and risk of infection.
Good luck and best wishes.
Thanks ladies I was told twelve weeks by one nurse.I had one hip done in September I had to stop metojet injection two weeks before and also reach zero on prednisolone. It was hard work but I managed and op went well and I healed really well. After op went back on steroids for my polymyalgia reducing again so hopefully can try to arrange other hip replacement for early March.Keeping my fingers crossed lol.I have appt with rheumatology nurse next week so will check things again.
Check with your rheumatology team. I’m having surgery next week which will be nearly 5 months after Rituximab. My rheumatologist said ideally it should be 3-4 months after but a lot of medical research says at least 4 months. However, due to a mix up in the elective surgery admissions it will be 5 months (I was originally given a date 4 weeks after Rituximab so I phoned elective admissions and explained about Rituximab and they promised me a date in November which would have been 3-4 months. Unfortunately the lady I spoke to went on long term sick leave and I was forgotten about). I have spoken to the rheumatologist, and she said as long as surgery happened before Christmas she was happy for me to still have my next lot Rituximab at the end of January as planned.
Good luck with your hip replacement.
Anyone on rituximab- like me, remember to take serious covid precautions because it can reduce the impact of the vaccine. Take carexx
Thanks but I am not out very often.Visits are mainly medical.I believe your Rheumatology team is in Edinburgh same as myself.Keep Well. x
I had my hip replacement on November 22nd, 4 months after my last Rituximab infusion which was on July 20th. I even had my methotrexate injection on the day of the op. I’ve had no problems at all. Good luck!
