My father has had RA for about a year now. He is on weekly metoject and is currently in remission. His liver and kidneys are fine. He has mild anaemia with haemoglobin of 108. His platelets are raised. He doesn’t have any other chronic conditions and is otherwise healthy. He is 70 yo.
The question: is it safe for him to have a covid vaccine? Are there any particular considerations in terms of vaccination for RA patients?
Many thanks.

I'm pretty certain that it is. Should have been offered one by now. It's recommended that people with RA should get vaccinated. Ask GP to be absolutely certain as I'm not qualified to give medical opinion.
My husband has RA and a raft of other conditions (including diabetes and CLL). He is 69 years old and has had two vaccinations without having any side effects. The medical research seems to suggest that for older people, especially those with health conditions, it is better to have the vaccine than to have the risk of complications from the coronavirus.
If he is concerned then I suggest either he, or you on his behalf, speak to his GP or Consultant.
Hello, if you are looking for reassurance, I advise you to read the information on the NRAS website. nras.org.uk/information-sup... or just type nras covid in your Web browser. All the best.
Is there any other reason why he hasn't had his vaccination yet? He's in priority group both by age and illness. The opinions about whether to discontinue methotrexate briefly before and after his methotrexate injections depends on what his rheumatology consultant thinks about him as an individual. If there is little chance of him flaring if he pauses it for a couple of weeks, he may get a better response and immunity levels, but if there is any chance he might flare, then it's better to continue with the medication.
Whatever the advice he should get on with it and get protected soon.
