Urine infections : Has anyone had a really bad urine... - NRAS
Urine infections
Yes Kate , I am in A & E I have a bad urine infection and waiting for a prescription , urine inefections are terrible and it’s often they can keep coming back . Keep drinking loads of water 😊
Currently on the second in 3 months having never had one before. No A&E this time but was sent the first time and they decided it must be gynaecological instead 🤷🏻♀️. Started second course of antibiotics for one that started last Saturday, I’m hoping this isn’t gonna be a regular occurrence.
I was recommended to take D:mannose by a urologist for frequent UTIs and also to prevent them. It works better than drinking cranberry juice. Buy it from a health food shop or I think Amazon sell it too. I prefer the powder which has to be mixed in water but it comes in capsules too. Try to drink at least 2 litres of water each day as well.
It might be it's not the right antibiotic. Ask if the bacteria is treated by the antibiotic you've been prescribed. IE Trimethoprine doesn't work on Ecoli. I have a lost of UTI's and my Nephrologist prescribes Fosformyacin it's a one off big dose but does work on my bug. Drink a lot of water and double void passing urine (look it up). Dmannose is made from Cranberry's and can help too. And avoid pantyliners if you can as well and ask to see a Urologist if the problem continues for a CT scan and cystoscopy.
I had recurring UTIs and each time I went on antibiotics I had to miss my biologic infusion. Eventually my GP prescribed half of a very low dose antibiotic which I take every evening and it doesn’t interfere with my meds. I am touching wood as I say that I haven’t had an infection since.

I am getting recurrent bladder infections since i started my brenzys biologic. If this keeps up I’m revisiting the biologics and whether i want to continue. I have a friend who had a severe bladder infection that could not be treated. D:mannose brought her great relief. Have to be careful using it if you have diabetes as this supplement can affect sugar levels. Best wishes

you don't say what age range you are. I just mention this as I have found out (from personal experience) that recurrent UTI's in menopausal or post menopausal women can actually be caused by lack of oestrogen which causes dryness down below which can then cause recurrent infections. After loads of tests, a cystoscopy and gynae input I have finally after nine months got back to some semblance of normality by using Vagifem -a very low dose of oestrogen via pessary (you can also get creams) which is prescription only and regular use of a vaginal mosturiser also on prescription. Boringly I have also had to cut out caffeine, alcohol, any very acidic foods, fizzy drinks etc. I also take D-mannose, probiotics to make sure my system is working as well as it should, Cod Liver Oil and Buckthorn berry oil. I keep hydrated and have a glass of cranberry a day. I still have relapses where I start to feel 'Cystitisy' but have so far managed to head it off by upping the cranberry and using Cystopurin for a couple of days. Maybe ask your GP for a urinary and gynae consult - I know if it gets bad again my gynae has written to my gp to get me on a low dose of antibiotics for three months but obviously I would like to avoid this if possible. If you are at the age where menopause may be a factor then first stop GP for Vagifem and moisturiser would be my suggestion.
