Has anyone ever had a small hard lump in the top of their wrist? After a quick google it appears it could be a ganglion cyst or arthritis nodule.
I went to the doctors about 6 weeks ago with severe wrist pain and restricted movement in my right wrist, was given anti-inflammatories which calmed it down after a few weeks and i thought all was back to normal..
However, a week ago i then noticed a hard lump in the top of this wrist but its only noticeable when i flex my wrist towards the floor. It hadn’t been causing me any pain until this morning but i did go to the gym yesterday and done some weights (i was wearing wrist supports) but i think its aggravated it further! Its really frustating because i love the gym and was told to strengthen my muscles to help my joints but i feel like i now cant train upper body with this lump in the way.
I feel bad contacting the doctors as an emergency if its just one of those things that may go/ i have to put up with in the mean time.
Any advice or knowledge would be great - thank you x

I had one but my was humongous. Usually they leave well alone as they can just disappear but sometimes they restrict movement and you can have them drained . I did they said it wasn’t permanent but 4 years on it hasn’t come back
Hi JIA - would you mind sharing your anti-inflammatory and was it worth it as my hand is the bain of my life - contacting my Rheumy as the inflammation in this area never goes so frustrating! If it was an injection did it hurt?
Hi, I was taking etoricoxib but the doctor switched me to naproxen tablets as she said its safer for the stomache or something?
I also wore a wrist brace which i think helped. But to be honest the doctor didn’t even confirm it was my wrist flaring, i’d had a busy week at work and she said she thought id just aggravated it and to rest it.. seems weird the lump has now appeared though and the doctor not seeming that concerned when it really hurt 6 weeks ago🤔
My knees are my main problem and the only thing that ever sorts them out when they flare are steroid joint injections - tablet anti-inflammatories never make a difference!
Thank you, i hope you sort something out that relieves your pain x
I went to my Gp and mentioned it off hand Gp referred me to a hand surgeon. My rheumatologist just said it’s a synovial cyst and dismissed me with it may go in it’s own . It didn’t and cause restrictions
--okay, thank you. I bought a wrist brace from Amazon and a glove to compress, which helps. As said, my left hand is just always tender, been like this for a long time.
I am tempted to get the injection - so frustrating for us.
I hope you too get the answer needed- take it easy and have a good week despite our aches ☺️ - Hessie
I have had a hard bump on the top of my right wrist that I thought might have been a ganglion from a similar google diagnosis. It became more prominent when inflammation went down. I’m my case it is right next to the worst of the deformity in my carpal joint. Resting it definitely helped (it got way more painful with lots of activity) but it was ruled definitely not a cyst. Definitely seek medical advice. I hate feeling like I’m ‘bothering’ my doctor too but in not bothering them for a while, a major deterioration in my wrist was missed. Helping patients is literally what they are there for 💪 Good luck x
Go see a doctor. I had what I thought was a ganglion on my knuckles and left it for ages until my knuckles were also swelling with arthritis. Then I finally went to GP. he sent me for ultrasound then I was referred to hospital to have it removed and a biopsy was done. It was benign but how stupid did I feel for waiting? What if it had not been? Please get it checked and keep an eye on it x
Hi JIAsince98, it does sound like a ganglion. They usually go down on their own eventually. In the old days they used to hit them with the family bible😯😯Best wishes
I get them all the time, classed. As Carpule Tunnel Syndrome, had an operation on the right some years ago that was only partially successful, although the success rate is 98%
Good morning, I have had a lump on both wrists for months they aren't painful and now I have started medication seem to have shrunk a little. They don't restrict movement and are not a problem other than than being a little unsightly and when my batty rescue cat insists on licking the lump and gets mad when I pull my hand away. I've signed up for some of the workshops in September and will see if tapping helps. 😺
It sounds like a ganglion and I’ve had two. Once when I was ten and my dad hit it with the bible. I had one recently which I dispersed myself with the other hand. About three times in all and then it stayed away. I remember other children getting them but there aren’t many around these days. Speak to a medic though as it could be something else. Con amore Bx
I had one as a child which was removed but grew back much bigger as an adult it was found to be growing from the bone , so it was removed and bone was scrapped, it was checked and found to be benign. But once again when being scan for arthritis it has shown up as growing again and is now visible . But it isn't painful or causing me any trouble.
