Unbearable pain in wrists & hands!

Hi all, due to start biosimilar Imraldi on Tuesday & don’t want anything to get in the way of this! But, was woken up at 7am with the most excruciating pain in the outer side of my left hand & wrist going up my arm! While both hands are painful & hurt very often, this is off the scale awful! I cannot bend my little & ring finger without shouting as the pain shoots up & have had to put a splint on it with a bandage underneath. It also feels very hot to the touch. While it’s always been hands & wrists the most affected by the RA I would like to know any thoughts on this. Hubby thinks I should go up to A & E but again I’m worried this will interfere with me starting the biosimilars!

Oh dear, how awful for you.

Let us know how you get on please? I shall be thinking of you until I hear again. Can't believe how you are suffering.

Lots of good vibes. Pauline

Just thought, would steroid injection from your doctor help?

Do get it looked at...if it’s an infection not RA you can’t start a Biologic drug with an Infection.

Better to get any infection under control than chance nasty side effects from Imraldi.

Good luck!

Hope that whatever is causing it doesn't prevent you from starting Imraldi. When I started it, I had immediate improvement. Good luck.

That is really good to read, very comforting.

Thank you. Pauline xx

I had something very very similar happen to me. I don't think I had started biologics by then. I remember it lasted 12 hours through the night and had to call my nurse line at rheumatology at 5 in the morning, luckily they picked p my message first thing and I had a call at ten past 8 to go and get a steroid shot. Hope you have been able to sort things

This happened to me, but in my shoulder. Just a tiny movement in my finger made me scream in pain. I called 999 and told them I didn’t need an ambulance but pain relief and they helped me. I also took Pred and it calmed it within 12 hours. It’s horrid and thankfully it hasn’t happened since. I do hope you can get this sorted out.

A bit calmer this morning after a good glug of some oramorph (an unopened bottle in the fridge). I was wiped out after 6 plus hours in A & E. I have been splinted which helps. Have taken a pred but they don’t want me taking that after today... said the biologics will lower the swelling & consequently the pressure on the ulna nerve. Funny you say shoulder as the pain did go right up to my shoulder! Roll on Tuesday biologics! Doesn’t help with all this stress with moving house in 5 weeks. Hope you’re enjoying your hols xx

It’s hideous isn’t it! I never knew such pain. They gave me pain relief and then out of hours doc dropped in oromorph. I only took one dose of Pred which knocked it on the head thankfully. Saying this quietly, but since biologics, I’m pretty much fine!

I’m back now. I absolutely loved it. Booked on Cunard for my birthday next year already 💪🏽🛳🌐

Cannot fault you! Just waiting for H at H to arrive! Our house move is a nightmare, otherwise we were booking a cruise, Niagara to New York, by Amtrak, then New England & back to NY. We should have moved a week ago, further down the chain pulled out, (oh the stress) small chain now scheduled Early Sept..xx

Moving house. I don’t envy you, but it will be worth it in the end. At least you’re ruled out of the lifting and carrying.

That trip sounds fabulous! You could book it for next year and you’ll have it to look forward to?

Yes may do although we want to go back to Oz if possible, hardly been away this year with the move & not feeling very well, feeling deprived lol xx

Welcome to my world!

I know exactly what you are feeling and they ONLY thing that currently stops the pain is 20mg of prednisone!

Have been dealing with this since Dec 2018 when Enbrel just stopped working.

Tried Humira & xelzanze with NO luck and now started IV infusion Acterma & waiting to see if that one will work to get off prednisone or at least get down to 5mg a day instead of 20mg.

I now have Cushinggoid from so much prednisone!!

As of today IV Infusion not working and STILL need the prednisone to be able to even touch my wrists!

OMG. Can not even turn on faucets or turn door knobs until the prednisone takes effect!

Feels like glass rubbing on inside of wrists with every single tiniest movement!
