Hi I was wondering if it would be safe to take a probiotic tablet as I’m on methotrexate and tocilizumab for RA? I have had chest infection and heard probiotic good after them but just wondering if anyone would know if they were ok to take it on this treatment for RA? I’m just not sure as I know when I’m treatment you have to be care it to eat certain foods like soft cheese and pate etc. Would appreciate anyone’s help with advice. Thank you!

Always ask your rheumy nurse about anything you are thinking of ingesting…the most mild sounding substance can be contra indicated when on any prescription drug.Nobody here. Is qualified to advise you….even if we know you are taking a Dmard & a Biologic….we don’t know your clinical history…& even if we took the same …we still must not advise you.

So rheumy team tomorrow morning 📞

My first specialist nurse, many years ago, told me there was no specific food to avoid. If something affected me don't eat it. As simple as that. I have taken Activia probiotic drinks over the years and have not had a problem. To be absolutely sure, ask your pharmacist. Good luck.

Best to check but I am on methotrexate and a biologic and take probiotics regularly, especially as there is increasing evidence of a link between gut health and autoimmune diseases. 😊
