I have a lot of pain and inflammation and an MRI scan has showed active sacral iliitis.
I have been on Methotrexate for years and Benepali for quite a few
My CRP is under 1 can anyone explain how this can be please ?

I have realised now it is because I am serum negative
I’m s-negative and my disease activity doesn’t show in my bloods.
Hey there vonniesims am negative as well take careX
I'm seronegative too, apart from neutropenia my bloods are normal.
I’m seropositive but my CRP is usually less than 1 even if I’m experiencing inflammation so it’s not just something that seronegative people experience. Luckily I have a great Rheumatologist who always examines me and listens to what I say my symptoms are rather than looking at numbers on a screen.
I’m seropositive too but my CRP is always fine even if I’m having the worst flare and can’t move and have loads of inflammation. I’m lucky too that consultant doesn’t look at numbers but asks the questions and rarely examines me thank god. So I think you’ll find loads of us have normal blood results but it’s all just part of the picture of RA if your body is screaming then you know to ignore blood CRP results because let’s face it the meds will dampen results anyway. As long as your rheumy team listen to you it shouldn’t be a problem not always easy I know.
Thankyou. Think I am a bit worried as I have managed to get a face to face consultation, but the consultant is new so I am hoping he is better than the last, and listens and examines.
It does not really make sense to me either. My rhuemotologist checks my joints and finds inflammation yet the CRP is normal. I am glad you had the MRI and hopefully he will be able to figure something out to help you.
I have just re-started MTX after a 2-year break. I am seropositive and can't really offer advice except to say good luck with your new consultant. Hope it gets sorted out.
Hi there,I'm seropositive but like the others have mentioned blood results do not tell the full story. CRP and ESR may be within normal limits... but your joints are taking no notice!!!
I'm always jealous of folk who get MRI's and scans etc... they seem reluctant in my clinic for these checks. ...my hands and feet are playing up (despite normal blood work) and I've asked for X-ray's. Nurse said she doesn't want to "over expose " me to X-ray's..... not been done for 2 years since diagnosis!!! and they know from previously I also have osteoarthritis in these places, would be really helpful to know if my symptoms are due to this worsening ,and not just the RA.
Benepali didn't help for me,amgevita did for short time but couldn't tolerate the side effects. Wishing you luck with the face2face,I'm waiting for mine. XxX
I am not familiar with "seropositive " and "seronegative" terminology. Can someone enlighten me? Thank you .
Hi,seropositive RA refers to the presence of rheumatoid factor and/or anti-CCP antibodies in the blood. Seronegative RA refers to the situation where both antibodies are not elevated in the blood (although the symptoms can be the same as the positive group).
Hope that helps. Xx
