I am having problems with stomach pains over the, last 3 weeks but did go off for several days now worse though. It can be one of the side effects from tocilizumab but I have been in out about 5 months now so would it have started before now if it is the tocilizumab? Also on other DMARDS but been on them years.

Hi, I found Tocizumab infusions to help and gave me pain relief but when I changed to Injections I felt it didn't work as well. I had to stop Tocizumab when I returned to live in Canada and due to the time it took to get a doctor and Rheumatologist the injections didn't help anymore. That isn't unusual with RA meds after coming off them for what ever reason. It is best to talk with your Rheumatologist. I didn't have any side effects with the medication. Sorry if this doesn't help.
Hi Kershon, I've been on tocilizumab infusions for over 5 years now, and this isn't a side effect I've had. I'm not saying I don't ever get stomach ache, but I don't blame that if I do. Could it be another med you're on? I also take etoricoxib (an NSAID), as well as other meds for various conditions, so my GP put me on lansoprazole (a PPI) to protect my stomach from irritation. Hope this helps, and good luck with finding a solution!
Thank you free your reply. I am stomach liners twice daily already. The tocilizumab is the only change and it is one of the common symptoms apparently but not sure if it would henge started straight away. I will contact the hospital Tom tomorrow and see what they think. Glad tocilizumab worked for you x
Hi Kershon. I have recently (over the last 3 months) started to get abdominal pain. My GP sent me for tests all of which were negative apart from having a hiatus hernia, and I have been on Lanzoprazole for years. However, I was started on Leflunomide which I am tempted to put down as the cause of my abdominal pain. Are you by any chance on Leflunomide as well?
Hi. No I'm not on that. Sulfasalazine, methotrexate and diclofenac plus, stomach liners twice daily. I spoke to rheum team today they don't think it is likely to be the toci as would have started straight away so we'll try the Dr's tomorrow. X
I only took tocilizumab for a few weeks as I had terrible mouth issues. The inside of my mouth was very red inflammed, bleeding, ulcerated and I had diarrhoea. I felt just miserable with it too.
When you say stomach do you mean the anatomical stomach or abdomen? Try taking two sea kelp tablets before bedtime. This will give them the best chance of being absorbed slowly. And, of course, mention this to your general p. Con amore Bx
Hi KershonSorry to hear about your tummy problems if I was you I think I would see if I could get a Dr's appointment and see what they say.
I haven't had tocizilumab now for many years but I did well on it. It's easy to blame everything on a biologic but try to find out what is the cause from Dr or hospital before giving up on tocizilumab.
