I'm new here and I would like to share about my severely eroded & fused right wrist. It took almost 8 years before I was diagnosed with R.A and it all started with a right wrist pain that got worse over the years. Finally got great health insurance and a great Orthopaedic surgeon that tried his best to save my wrist from having a fusion. I got my first surgery on the wrist for a distal ulna resection back in Feb of this year which was not successful and because with RA, it caused my middle finger, ring, and pinky's tendon to all rupture so my only option and hope is Arthrodesis (fusion) with tendon repair & transfer which I'm extremely grateful & thankful for (second surgery in April---still recovering & doing hand therapy & off from work) I don't suffer from wrist pain anymore it went from 14 out of 10 to 2 out of 10! =)
I will be updating and will be posting pics up.
Keep it up everyone & know that you are not alone in this =)

I had both my thumb tendons repaired and transferred, I also had my ulnar head replaced. I was originally supposed to have a wrist replacement but by the time my op arrived my wrist had fused on its own. I have had several hand surgeries on top of these. My very best advice for anyone with problems is to like Hannahdeezy says, have it done but also be prepared to do all the exercises you are given to get the best of what has been done. I hope you are very soon fully recovered.
Hi Hannahhdeezy - thanks for the post - that sounds all so painful I hope you are gradually on the mend and recover swiftly.
I suffer with not swollen but more tender joints in my wrists and palm area now and again - I am thinking of seeing a surgeon to see if exercise alone could help as I don't want more meds to just disguise the soreness I feel. This has been going on for 4 years now. Did you get referred to your surgeon? Take care - Hessie ☺️
Yes please do see a Hand specialist as soon as you can to discuss your concerns and to also see what your options are. my advice is not to do much with that hand and take care =)
Thank you - I did see a fabulous new rheumy nurse today who said monitor and can do a scan with a steroid injection if swelling doesn't ease - take care now ☺️
Hi Hannahdeezy and welcome. What an unpleasant time your first surgery must have been for you but hopefully now, things are looking much better and I hope you continue to improve. Thanks for sharing your experience. Good luck. 🤞
Thanks for sharing Hannah. I have three ruptured tendons in one hand but had put off transfer surgery as I hadn’t heard good results from it. Please keep us updated how it goes for you.
Hi Hannahdeezy I to have recently right hand surgery 3 wks ago, 2 knuckles and middle finger repair. I’m also doing my exercises and have another 2 wks of my splint to keep everything stable. Getting very good at using my left hand and things easier now I can get it wet. Hope your exercises help and as you say we have to keep doing them. Take care x
