I’ve got puffy swellings near the outside of both ankle joints which is quite painful. I’m not sure what to do for the best. Should I be resting? I think it’s my RA., hopefully not a heart thing?
I’m not yet settled on medication yet so I don’t think my RA is very well controlled.
I get this and it’s a sign my RA is active. If you have pain contact your team . Ice /heat and rest with epson salts bath can help .
Swelling with pain in ankles tells me I need to put my feet up. Warmer weather can make my ankles puffier, but might be good idea to get a doctor to rule out any heart problems.
Hi Sunnyseas. It's probably because you're still not settled on your meds but check with rheumatology anyway just to be on the safe side also your GP to rule out anything else. Is it listed as one of the side effects of Leflunomide?
I've noticed this recently. It's not very painful but tender when I press it. I'm not sure if it's a new thing or not as I've only noticed it since I've been wearing sandals; it may have been there for a while but hidden by socks. I think that it was a bit worse during the recent hot weather. The joints at the outside of my feet just below my little toes are swollen and sore most of the time but the rheumy team aren't interested in feet 🙄 I've got a podiatry appointment next week so I'm hoping that they'll be able to shed some light on what's going on 🤞
I have a swollen ankle from walking badly due to joint damage. (Waiting on an op.) As others have said elevation will bring down the swelling. I also use a runners type support sock. It brings down the swelling more. After an hour or two with the sock and my feet up I can sometimes see some ankle bone. 😊
My ankles are / were almost permanently swollen when I was unwell and the RA on the rampage, the swelling has been significantly less since I've been on toficinitib.
It can be a sign of things other than RA, please get it checked by your GP. If you press it with a finger, does it leave an indentation? My GP ran lots of different tests when I first had it.
