Having a major RA flare. Had cellulitis four weeks ago and so not restarting my methotrexate and biologics until next week. My second Covid jab seems to have made the flare worse. Finally got a six week steroid course to help me until the biologics kick back in. My CRP is high and has been before but my ESR is 119. I’ve made the mistake of googling ESR and now completely panicking about how high it is abs what that could mean. Has anyone had ESR that high and it just been part of the flare?

Sorry to hear that you are in a flare. My ESR is in that range too so I know it can be alarming. When i saw my bloodwork i thought my doctor was going to take me off my Simponi because the numbers reflect the way I feel. He convinced me to stick with the med for 3 more months. He didn't seem too alarmed. Looking for a change in meds soon.
I hope that once you get back on track with your meds, those numbers will go down. Feel better soon.
Sending you best wishes.
My bloods can be high when flaring and after illnesses or infections. EsR and CRP is often used as indicators of how much inflammation is going on and can help.the doctors work out your treatment. I hope the steroids and restarting your meds helps. Cellulitis is nasty so get well soon x
The CRP and ESR results will be affected by your recent infection as well as your flare. ESR results at that level are not uncommon as I know!
