Has anyone here any experience of a toddler - 20 months - with juvenile RA? My nephew has just been diagnosed and awaiting a hospital appointment to begin steroid injections. I was wondering what comes next. As an adult with RA I am aware of the meds available to me but not the children.
Toddler RA: Has anyone here any experience of a toddler... - NRAS
Toddler RA
Hello
I have RA and my daughter has JIA, although she was not diagnosed until the age of 12 so not a toddler! There is a HealthUnlocked forum for parents of children with JIA (but I'm sure other relatives would be welcome too!) and I know there are parents with toddlers on there.
As for meds children have more limited options because of licenses. The only traditional DMARD licensed for children is methotrexate, however, in some ways this is a benefit as they are moved onto biologics much quicker than adults.
This link takes you to the NHS treatment pathway for JIA.
I'm so sorry to hear this.
Hi, please call the NRAS helpline on 08002987650. You can speak to any of us or our young persons project co-ordinator. But simply put, yes, toddlers do get JIA. I have known people diagnosed at that age and quite a few that were about 6 months old.
