I wonder if anyone on Olumiant (baricitinib) experiences an increased incidence of broken blood vessels inside the eyes. I definitely do.

Hi. Baricitinib and other JAK inhibitors are fairly new medications. Therefore they may not be many people on these. If you have problems with your eyes please contact your rheumatology team.

Yes, I am aware. But compared to other places online, this forum has the most people on baricitinib. It helped a lot when I was just in the beginning, considering whether I should take it. I hoped that some of them will see this post. Thank you!

Hi, sorry I haven't used that drug. But one thing comes to mind, does it have a side effect if raising blood pressure as that often shows in the eyes. Just a thought. But defo worth mentioning to the doc xxx 😍

Hi! I’ve been on it for a couple of years and no I haven’t had this: but I would check with medics if I were you.

I am on 4mg baricitinib (olumiant) daily and I have had a bad red eye afew times where all the white was blood red but I showed my rheumatologist and she didn't seem concerned.

This is interesting.

I often get broken blood vessels in my eyes. To begin with I would go to A & E but after going there about 7 or 8 times they said I didn't need to go when I had it anymore unless it hurt a lot or was different to usual. At the beginning I had one three times in two weeks. I am not on the medication that you are on but am on a lot of other meds. When I get it, it looks horrendous but it doesn't hurt at all.

It was six years ago that it all started and I still have no idea what causes it. If you ever find the answer, then please do let us know on here. I hope you are soon completely over it all.

Thank you for your reply. I got them in both eyes simultaneously. I suspect that my new medicine causes it because I never had this before. Weird stuff, but at least it doesn't hurt.

I would see an optician just to check your pressures are ok and nothing else is wrong. A process of elimination .

Yes, I regularly check my eye pressure because I am on steroids too. I am due for another eye check soon, but since I posted this, I had no broken blood vessels anymore! Sometimes my body does weird stuff 🤣
