That’s not great for you at all. I would talk to your rheumy and see what solutions they offer up. It could be a med change or maybe increasing folic acid ... I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ it would be good to stop whatever is giving you them really.

Not sure there is a cure, they usually clear up in a couple of weeks. I use Orajel which I get from the chemist, it numbs the area so you can eat. Also a salt and water mouth wash helps, I've never bothered with the expensive ones as salt is a natural healer. Hope you feel better soon

Oh you poor thing - I developed that problem on methotrexate until they upped my folic acid dose to 6 days a week. The GP prescribed a mouthwash for me, Difflam, which you can just get at a pharmacy without prescription as well, I believe. It really helped me so may be worth a try - it has an anaesthetic action as well, so enabled me to numb the pain long enough to eat. I also found the paint-on bonjela - Bonjela Complete, I think, was great if I got one inside my lip - the mouthwash helped with the throat/further back ones. If they persist I would definitely speak to your GP. Hope this helps!

So sorry that it's hurting. I had my folic acid increased to 4 days a week. I do mtx Monday, start folic acid Thursday through to and including Sunday.

I can easily increase folicacid. I was advised by my rheumatologist just to take one a week

Hi

I have suffered with mouth ulcers most of my life, taking RA drugs has slightly made it worse. After seeing my GP, the best he could do was prescribe difflam (an oral anaesthetic) and advise me to use bongela (the stuff that you rub on babies gums). This did help a bit, but didn’t seem to stop the ulcers frequency.

The most effective method I have found is really strict oral hygiene, brushing my teeth after every meal, and using a stronger mouth wash - corsodyl (any generic mouthwash with chlorohexidine an anti bacterial will do).

Also as some of the other people on this site advise, avoid foods that irritate your mouth - such as crunchy toast.

I use diflam spray, you get to spray right onto the ulcer and it numbs it especially before you eat, gives you a bit of respite from the blighters. I used to attend the dental hospital when I was younger, always getting them, think I was a guinea pig for them, tried loads of things. They found out I was low on iron at first and put me on tablets, the best thing they did give me was a little pink tablet, betnasol I think, and it dissolved into the ulcer, don’t think you get them now, they were a kind of steroid tablet. My trusty lifesaver now is diflam spray, especially if you get it on them before they get bigger. Best wishes.

I got mouth ulcers totally out of the blue a few years ago but it turned out I had Oral Lichen Planus (after a biopsy) I still got mouth ulcers though but was told to try changing my toothpaste to Biotene. It really worked, I’ve had no more mouth ulcers and my OLP is under control.

Mouth ulcers are a regular thing for me, they seem to pop up often in my mouth and mouthwash and Bonjela ( make sure it's the adult one and not the baby one) seem to do the trick.

My rheumy nurse recommended Gingigel mouthwash which I bought and it cleared my mouth, both ulcers and sore roof of mouth. Sore mouths are a misery. Hope yours clears quickly. xx
