So I asked him about vaccines etc, I see NRAS have been kind enough to reply and are looking into the remarks on tv recently.
I asked if I should have my TCZ infusion next week and he said yes, I'm advising all my patients to have the vaccination whatever one is offered as far as RA advice goes but they are giving patients in Rituximab advice about timings. His department are releasing guidelines very soon.
He said TCZ doesnt appear to cause too much lowering of antibodies and still feels it does reduce the severity and risk of death if his patients contracted RA I then got a prednisolone injection into my knee and told not to walk on it for 1 week as theres trauma, blood and inflammation in it. If it doesnt ease in 2 weeks he will do more!!
Success !

Thank you for this. I think my Rheumatologist is of the same opinion, well was a few weeks ago and I'll check back to see he still is! Why can't they just all sing from the same hymn sheet, it would make things so much easier! Hope the knee does ease! Xxx
Yes I’m speaking to my rheumy next week too. I’ll ask re Rtx timings but I think here and BRS have already told us this, but I’ll ask mine anyhow to confirm.
Thanks for the update on vaccines allanah. Pleased to hear you got an injection in your knee, although I bet that wasn’t pleasant at the time! Sending lots of get well wishes to your friend too 🤗
I think the NRAS reply is helpful though. My take on it is that both vaccines are safe, I think Prof Salisbury was probably suggesting that efficacy for immunosuppressed may be higher with the Pfizer, but right now I think the priority for most of us is just to get one of them in our arm!
Thanks, allanah. I hate injections into joints! Not had a knee done, just wrists and then knuckles.
It seems from what I have read recently, that those on Rituximab should only have vaccinations a few weeks before their next infusion is due or at least six weeks after infusions.
In Scotland, shielding group category (me) should be offered their vaccination from mid February. This clashes with my infusions though I might not get them due to lockdown... Rheumatologist letter from review says ‘urgent’ return for infusions.
Personally, I’d rather have the vaccine later than delay infusions.
Oh well, we just wait and see what happens.
Meantime, Police Scotland have posted on Fb; it’s a form online for reporting breaches of COVID rules that are now law here. Seems rather OTT. Maybe they expect so many to blatantly break the law on this that having a separate online reporting system is a good thing.
Thanks for the update allana. Look after your knee. I hope the injection helps. Is now a good time to get your husband to read some cooking books? You never know...... x
I freeze a lot of meals to be cooked later - both for hubby to do and for me to do when I'm too busy/nauseous to cook from fresh - and when I just can't be bothered! 😂It's still homemade after all 😉
Hope you had your magic carpet parked outside doctor’s office! Last time I had injection into my knee rheumy also said not to walk on it, but couldn’t tell me how to avoid my two bus rides and 15 min walk home...I was sort of hoping she’d pull out her purse...😉
Thank you for the info on the vaccines, it sounds like there's a third one (Moderna?) coming on board too at some point. Keeping my fingers crossed for your knee and hope the injection really helps. Not sure how levitation works but may come in handy if you have to keep off your feet! Wonder if there is a local magician in the area who could help xx
This is great news and I am really hoping the injection helps you. It’s been a tough ride. You clearly have a really great rheumy. Thank goodness. Make sure you take care of that knee and don’t do more that you should... easier said than done 🌺
Glad to hear it is acting as a reminder... all too easy to think... I’ll just do that ... then I’ll sit down and put my leg up lol but very not lol lol 😊
Good to see the remarks are being looked into. Hope he has to make a retraction!! I’m sorry you’ve had a painful knee, thanks for taking the time to post. Good luck .
Sounds like you have a gem of a rheumy. I like mine too. Really hope the knee injection works because it must have been hell for you but we learn to live with that sometimes don’t we 😬. It’s nice to get some advice re vaccination too always nice to have a bit of reassurance. Rest up and enjoy the sit down and chill whilst you can. The cooking duties etc can wait for a week and will be enjoyed even more and you’ll be appreciated for it too.
