I'm really the wrong person to ask about methotrexate,I was taking the pills and they made me feel worse than before! It turned out that I was seemingly one in a million that they had an adverse effect on and I ended up hospitalised. In the time that I had been taking them they had caused irreparable lung disease and kidney disease!
Methotrexate : I'm really the wrong person to ask about... - NRAS
Methotrexate
I am so very sorry to hear that. I have only been on MTX a short while, but am very aware that very unfortunately there can be some very disturbing side effects in some, however I feel this is the only choice open to me at present, unless I want to continue with the horrendous pains and complete disability I have been suffering for the last few years. That doesn't mean I'm not also worried at times.
I really do hope you can find something you will be comfortable taking for your RA , and sincerely wish you all the very best. x
Same with me I've had RA for a few years too and have refused my Rheumatologist each year on starting Mtx but I had to give in last year in April as RA itself was causing so much damage to my body. I couldn't walk or take care of myself let alone my family. We really don't have a choice do we. I wish you all the best and hope we can both get better without any side affect due to our Meds.
What a sad result. So sorry for you. But looking it up this seems to be amazingly rare so you really, really had bad luck to be that one in a million.
I'm so sorry to hear this Ladyfairfax, what a terrible shock for you. Unfortunately, we know that there can be side effects that are none too pleasant but what can we do - we're between the devil and the deep blue sea. I wish you all the best. xx
I'm so sorry to hear this Ladyfairfax. I feel really sad to hear this. I really wish you good health. RA itself is so difficult to deal with and when something like this happens how do you deal with it. I wish you all the best xxx
Hi I too had Methotrexate, but injections. 25mg weekly to start with, until it made me very sick, then dropped to 15mg weekly. Lasted for 3 months and they had to take me off it due to causing inflammation of the joints, worse than the original RA. Plus it was having no effect on lowing inflammation levels according to blood results, so I'm now on Hydroxychloroquine tablets and so far so good. Definitely taking the edge off my symptoms. Unfortunately Methotrexate can be a double edged sword. It works in some and not in others.
Hi I'm glad the Hydroxychloroquine tablets have worked for you even thought Mtx didn't.
