Anyone get extra sensitive skin since having RA?

Excuse the close up, I cropped my mustache from it πŸ˜…

I just put some under eye cream on which I have used before with no problem and now man alive my skin is on fire.

The red is creeping down my face now and it burns like a good un.

I had my flu jab last week and since then things have gone bonkers, I felt terrible had a massive flare .

This week I've noticed after I put my face cream on (one that I've used for years) i get red flusing on cheeks like a slight allergic reaction and now today boom this.

Anyone else had the same ?

My body is out of control, if it starts doing this when I ear chocolate I'm going to have to have serious words.

I'm off to put some anti histamine cream on my face now. !

I find I’m sensitive to many things especially the sun. My latest one is the seams on my clothes are making my skin sore. Legs , arms , stomach even labels cause irritation πŸ₯Ί

Yes unfortunately I developed some skin sensitivity I didn’t have before RA. Although most of my problems occurred since taking Sulphasalazine to which I had a mega allergic reaction so it was stopped immediately. Nothing on my face (yet) except flushing probably caused by the Prednisolone. But I did get Lichen Planus again on my body and also in my mouth. ☹️

I hope your rash clears up quickly.

Yes! Another little thing that sometimes worries me but that I just put down to RD. I have also noticed age spots appearing overnight. I know that they are triggered by the sun which I find particularly galling as well, there isn't any! I'm freckly anyway and like my freckles but my skin is beginning to look like rotting fruit as age spots tend to be really big and random.Last week I put something on my face and I had a similar reaction to what you have described. It looked awful and there was one perfectly round patch. It died down after a couple of hours.

We are so the same ha ha.

I have alot of freckles and couple of age spots popped up overnight few months ago (how rude of them πŸ˜†), although they do blend in with the freckles!

This photo looks quite mild compared to what it was , happened so fast. Looked like i had been punched in the eyes ! Kind of kung foo panda but red ha ha.

Going down now but it panicked me abit. Just feel a bit out of control with my body. Was going to dye my hair but don't think I will risk it today !

Rotting fruit face πŸ˜‹

I've now got pictures of worzel gummage ha ha . Well it's you and me both!

Thing is I sent a photo to my mum (who very kindly came round and posted some anti histamine cream through door) and the thing that I noticed the most wasn't my red eyes but my mustache. RA doesn't give you a mustache does it ha ha ha .

Well I've found that since I've been on steroids for my RA my hair, moustache and nails all grow faster 😬

Yes yes and more yes however ever since I was 15. I was born with eczema.

I use hot water and a flannel... no soap no creams and gently clean the area. I use Vaseline when things get as bad as this ... not great at all but keeps the skin moisturised without any perfumes or things that are bad to use near eyes especially. The only face cream I can use is the blue tub thick nivea. Everything else stings.

Thanks for the suggestion of vaseline I will go and get some. X

great fan of Vaseline - I smear it into the corners of my eyes too! Actually the optician said it was OK and encouraged me. It's totally benign and acts as a great barrier, occlusive and keeps my dry eyes a bit more comfortable.

My skin is dryer, more fragile and more sensitive since being on methotrexate. And my hair has become thinned out and brittle. On the plus side, I don't need to shave my legs much πŸ˜†

Yep, there's always a plus. Besides having the RA under control and being able to play instruments and knit again. The steroids were fun too in the early days, but for now a thing of the past.

Have a lovely Christmas, and I hope your skin settles xxx

Yes, my body has gone nutsos too! I am sensitive to many things in the last 4-5 years, some perfumes, some creams, cleaning sprays, foods like fresh pineapple, anything spicy, etc, etc, etc! Today has been a bad day, with everything hurting, upper back, head, neck, lower back, jaws, and I found I couldnt finish brushing my teeth w a manual toothbrush, because I got too tired! REALLY??!!! GEEZ!

Marionfromhappydays profile image
Marionfromhappydaysβ€’ in reply tomovinalong11

Oh no that is no fun at all.

I really hope you can get your RA under control so you can feel more like you again (I know i can't wait until I have !)

Take care and merry Christmas x

Thank you, Marionfromhappydays! I got through Christmas, and day before yesterday had my first Covid vaccine. I have been very sick to my stomach and lots of pain throughout my body, but so happy to have at least one under my belt! I would like to hear from others who have had the vaccine, or intends to.

I get dry eyes and required a cream to sort cos it got sore and out of control.Skin itches all over sometimes , I drink moe water with the idea of flushing out whatever is driving my body bonkers.

On MTX so have to saty out of the sun (relevent in normal year cos go to Malaysia) brown spots all over back of my hands.

Face skin ok so far but body skin seriously much thinner since RA/MTX not sure if one or both cause it.

The condition and meds needed for cause the most bizarre symptoms, so helpful when ones share, thank you. :)

Hi Happy5! I have found that I bruise, scar and bleed so very easily, and I use mini Embrel. I can just barely touch my skin with a fingernail, brush up against even flat surfaces, and either get a bruise, cut or even a large patch of skin rubbed off! And of course, after that, I end up with large dark scars. My legs are a total disaster. Oh, and I have had 3 large skin cancers removed in the last year!
