Hello all.

Just after some advice and help really. I had pain in my right index finger in April 2019. Me being me brushed it off, but everytime i made a V or stretched my fingers it would pain me. I obviously have just carried on without seeking advice. Skip to 2 months ago, i have been feeling extremely tired and fatigued, i would rest at night and get up and feel like ive had no sleep at all. Around the same time the pain in my right hand knuckle and finger were really painful and very stiff in the morning. I then noticed when bending other fingers on my hand the middle joint was starting to get stiff and painful. So i made an appointment with the Dr (i did not have any pain in my left hand). I had some blood tests done and XRAY on both hands. My ESR was 23 and i was told i have Vitamin B12 deficiency was prescribed Folic Tablets (i actually didnt speak to a doctor at this point i received a text message had to call surgery to find out what they were for) i was then informed i needed to have more bloods taken the next week.

I then received a text to say that i should make an appointment as the Dr wanted to talk to me about them. Skip ahead another week was told last Monday that the Xray showed i had really pale bones? Still dont know what this means. That there was signs of imflammation in the joints but no erosion yet, and they were referring me to a RA Clinic. I have now gotten pain in my left hand not as bad as right hand. I also noticed in the past 2 months my gums keep swelling often and are really painful. I am still very tired and fatigued the Dr hinted this could be down to RA but will have to wait to be seen. I have more blood test booked for Monday as these are more specific?

I am wondering what the next steps were for you and how did you cope with the pain and being uncomfortable. I work in a very busy office and type alot so my hands can be very painful when resting them.

Any advice or help would me much appreciated :)

Well you’ll have to wait for your blood test to come back. The bad news is if it’s RA you are likely to feel worse before it gets better. The good news is that it will get better. Modern drugs work wonders and once you find what works for you you should get back close to the old you. I’m 20 months or so down the line and I’m mainly 90% of the old me. So try not to worry and just hang in there.

Low vit b12 can cause a multitude of symptoms, correct treatment for this is very important.i don’t know why you would be prescribed folic acid for this.folic acid is prescribed for a folate defiency not a vit b12 defiency.please go onto the pernicious anemia healthunlocked page for guidance on your low vit b12.im not saying that it might not be ra but you need to gather as much information as you can on all your symptoms.
