For LinaM. Here's a pic of the rubber carpet gripper that I use for opening jars and screw tops etc. Hope it helps and anyone else who may find useful.

Hi Biofreak. That's what I always use for opening jars and bottles etc, I keep a piece in the kitchen drawer. x

I have one in the kitchen, one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. Also got one in my handbag 😀

To open a screw top jar you just need to push a round ended knife blade under the lid...it breaks the seal...& it opens easily.

Nut crackers work on screw top bottles.

I know AC but I'm that cack-handed I can't grip the jar and push the knife round the rim. 😀As for nut crackers well I won't go into that! 🤣

You don’t need to grip the jar...just turn it upside down on a non slip surface like a folded tea towel & push the knife blade down..you might hear a soft pop...& then you turn the jar upright & open it.

It would probably work with a bottle too.....but I like crunching the nutcrackers!

Brilliant idea! Certainly more elegant than a rubber glove

great idea and less fiddly/ challenging than the hard plastic figure of 8 grippers.

Hi Biofreak can you get these rubber carpet grippers from a shop or do you have to get them from a physio - also how do you open domestos bottles ?

I got mine from Wilkinson's (Wilko) but I have also seen them in BM stores and Quality Save. It comes in a roll. Think you can get on Amazon too. As for bottles you have where you need to squeeze and twist, I struggle with the squeeze bit. Sometimes it works but squeezing hurts my thumb joints so not always successful. Then I have to refer to my other half. 😆

Aaw bless you. I know exactly how you feel. I get so frustrated. It's the same with mouthwash tops and Eve some pill bottles. I do find that the rubber matting really helps though. What I've started doing is once the bottle is open I dispense it into ordinary screw top empty bottles and put sticky labels on saying BLEACH or MOUTH WASH. 😁. Works for me but I wouldn't do it if I had kids around. Bit dangerous.

My OT supplied me a similar mat, it does help. I've since bought some more so I have a piece upstairs. My trusty old marigold helps in the kitchen!

Thank goodness for marigolds too 😁

I find a ‘lever action jar opener assorted colours’ from amazon, the best and safest thing to open jars. It breaks the seal effortlessly and doesn’t hurt my hands and wrists - and it costs less than a fiver!!

( Sorry, couldn’t get the link to work)

I had one of these under a wall cabinet, opens all size screw on lids and is very easy on your wrists and hands as it takes little effort.
