Don't grow old

Mum used to say that to me nearly every day. All my ailments started after she passed away. Now apart from my normal back pain I've started to get pain in the right side of my back just above my hip. I'm now worrying if it has anything to do with my kidneys. Last year I was under the kidney doctors and he told me only one of my kidneys was working fully. So with the doctors wanting a repeat blood test and now this pain I'm putting 2 & 2 together. I'm a complete worrier. But where would the pain be if it was my kidneys

Could it be you have overreached trying to get at something and strained a muscle? Don't worry unless you have reason to as it may make it worse, I know it's easy to say but not so easy to do. Hope all goes well for you. x

Hi, please try not to worry, I know it’s not easy.

I always try and find the positives in any situation (there are always one or two). At least your gp is doing something and it is so much better to sort this out early. It can be so frustrating if you know something is wrong and the gp fobs you off.

I’m like you - I don’t like not knowing because I imagine all sorts.

Try and keep positive x

There's no need to worry, go see your GP. A simple blood test will tell you if your kidneys are the problem. And your GP can help you figure out what the problem is and find treatments. There are plenty of things your pain could be, that aren't your kidneys. Why torture yourself? Make an appointment and find out.

You don’t always get pain with kidney problems . You can other symptoms that you wouldn’t put together that can mean kidneys are playing up. Best get checked if your worried. Nothing like peace of mind.

It will only be a day or two before you get the results of your blood test. So try not to fret until then. If there is a problem it will show up in blood tests.

Just to second what's been said here, you wouldn't have pain necessarily for a kidney problem - I have a biggish lump on one kidney (turned out to be benign, thank god) but had no idea it was there until a scan for something else picked it up.

Of course, with your history you're bound to be worrying about it being your kidney though, so I would try and pluck up my courage and get to the GP to get it checked out - definitely for the best. I won't say "don't worry", as I am a terrible worrier myself, so I know what it's like, but if you can get checked out asap you will be able to stop worrying all the sooner.

I have CKD and its vital you get it checked out. Some RA medications need to be adjusted or an alternative prescibed because the kidney processes them. Kidney failure doesn't always hurt and you must be sure nothing is wrong or if it is its not down to a medication. Function goes up and down naturally and its an overall measurement so have 1 working fully would still give an accurate eGFR result. Could be a urine infection as well that needs an antibiotic before it gets to the kidney so GP asap.

Gosh that is really strange because all my symptoms began after my mum passed away. I wonder if stress has nothing to do with it?

when I lost my mum in 2005 it is really strange as all of my horrible stuff started then even though I had my dad around for another year maybe the shock does something?
