Covid Risk Assessment Tool

The BBC just had an article about risk level for Covid so I looked it up, I found this link but it does seem to relate to workplace assessments but its worth a read. It is the same one BBC referred too and my risk is lower it does seem to appear. I'm pleased to say it takes into account my age. kidney function and RA med. status. This is the link alama.org.uk/covid-19-medic...

No its just your age plus or minus weight BMI then plus or minus conditions and meds. Scroll down its itemised really easy to add up I'm risk age 73.

I thought it straightforward. But interesting that they aren ‘t bothered about the drugs you are on, but merely whether or not you have RA (or other similar condition).

So anyone aged 48 or less with nothing but RA and normal weight etc ends up as low risk

Aged 48 to 68 with nothing but RA and normal weight then moderate and “much less likely to develop severe disease if infection occurs”

So only aged over 68 who would have a high risk of becoming hospitalised and seriously ill if infection occurs.

So I found it reassurimg.

Thats what I thought. The more information coming in is very helpful, and it does seem to imply its a risk but not the straight forward death sentence that was first muted. Even one death is horrid but risk of death doubles with each age group and so it might be targeted lockdowns for at risk people rather than a total shut down.

I found this really reassuring- thank you. I end up back at 35 so the risk is way down despite the fact I have pretty much been living in fear!

Thank you for this. It's very interesting but, to be honest, tells me no more than I already knew. Moderate risk.

Thanks for this, very useful and yes it is reassuring on the whole. I guess our medication risks would be the bit that is down to clinical judgement so for discussion with GP or rheumatology to see if that shifts us up a category??? I am just in the low risk here without any medication considerations but am still sticking to being careful and socially distancing when out. I have avoided shops but I will feel better about going in when needed for essential stuff based on this and when we all need to wear a mask inside as this will again lower the risk..... thanks for sharing

Did you click on the links at the bottom? I didn’t realise they were there until my Dad said! If I click on rheumatology then it gives more details eg AS = 2 points but if on biologics with it then = 8 points. It goes through a lot of them if you are interested?

Thanks for this. It looks very complicated at first sight but once you have grasped how they are working it out, the charts make sense and are easy to follow. (I would have arranged the charts first and the explanation second!)

But it does make a lot of assumptions based on our present inadequate knowledge, so is bound to need to be changed as more information becomes available.

I thought it was interesting but it's just for interest as must be guided by our RA team.

Hi the risk age is not so straight forward, think of it this way...shop worker. female 25 has cancer and on chemotherapy no other health issues, perfect BMI was told to shield due to treatment, still on treatment but according to that she is now in the green box with no risk, as covid age of 20. So if she worked for a nasty company they could make her go to work as according to that she is not at risk, So some things will be ok to work out but not others

Just thought I would put it out there

Hope all ok and keeping safe
