Hi Deejojo

I don’t know if it’s a flare, as this RA is all completely new to me, I have much to learn! It sounds like it must be. I just wanted to say I hope it leaves you soon, I’m sure others who on here will guide you and have helpful tips. So sorry you are suffering.

First off hugs darling. Speak to your rheumy or gp to make sure either way and they will guide you one way or another. It sounds like a flare darling, just check.xxxx

Morning.

You know how you feel and what meds you can take. Could it be flu if you have been in contact with anyone or is it the flare from hell? Try and target meds to what it could be, if meds dont work or if you need or want to ring gp or 111, dont struggle and do get help and advice. Try and sip water and rest. This may well pass soon. I would say dont suffer. Do you have anyone with you?

I so wish there was more I could do. Someone on here will come up with good advice. Rest.

Let us now how you are when you feel up to it. Sending a hug.

🌈

Is it just me or is everyone suddenly having major flares and symptoms?? I've had to take my sumatriptan injection this morning for my head and had weird ankle pains in the night. swollen fingers past few days...something in the air?

I think that I'm having my proper first flare at the moment. More like what others describe. My all over symptoms are even in my face and skull. Ears, nose (which triggers cluster headaches) and jaw. Also I get lumps under my skin and hot bruises. I've had all of this before of course but it's all happening at the same time, so I assume this is what is meant by a 'flare'.

in reply to Brychni

I mentioned this to someone else. So many people struggling this past week.?? Is this a coincidence or is there a common denominator I’m missing? I’ve had tremendous fatigue , swelling and stiffness. I’ve just booked an appointment with my gp . I have had sinus symptoms now for 10 days but last night woke up with tremendous pressure across my my cheeks eyes and forehead along with a very heavy feeling in my head. Tried everything. Nasal sprays, steam cocodamol nsaids sleep nothing helps.

Yep snap snap and snap again x

I think it's the RD. If you look up TMJ (jaw problems), painful skull,'underlying causes' rheuamtoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are always listed. But if you think about it, it's obvious. The inflammation can affect all 'lining' material of the body including heart and lungs - why not the nose and ears? Apparently PsA can affect hearing because of it.

in reply to Brychni

🙄cheer me up why don’t you Brychni 😜

🤣 I know! When you really start looking into it, nearly everything can be blamed on RD!

For me it's the dampness, even in summer. Possible common denominator? Used to be hell when the gotta fría came, even though I was the best controlled I've ever been at the time.

How strange so have I. Today it sounds like I have a heavy cold but I know I haven’t I have chronic rhinitis but it’s so bad & today I have a flare from hell. X

Same here as the weeks and months go on things changing with my health and not for the better I'm afraid. Managed to speak with GP at end of last week and have to go into the surgery in over a weeks time for long awaited blood tests.

I've been having tremendous fatigue as well and I was so wiped out I spent much of the last weekend in bed. My legs have been aching badly and my knees painful. Also my digestive system's been playing up.The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago.

in reply to MadBunny

We are twins 👯 I always flare in humid weather. Very humid today and I’m struggling already. It wasn’t as humid last week but I was bad 🤷🏽‍♀️no idea

I’ve had a strange stomach as well. Didn’t really connect it all up but who knows 🤷‍♀️

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Caza

Who knows indeed. I have digestive system flare ups from time to time -usually when I get an ra flare. Thankfully its not very often.

I’ve never connected the two 🤔 I’ll have to watch out for it in the future.

My rheum nurse always asks about gi probs.I suppose inflammation can affect it.And Im on oral mtx plus other meds which list gi probs as side effects. I 'm also thinking its because Im not getting as much exercise due to shielding.

I’ve had RD for nearly 20 years and in the past 10 days have had another flare. Contacted rheumy nurse and she booked me an appointment today for a steroid injection. She told me they have had loads of RD patients with flares at the moment they think due to the stress and strain of shielding/lockdown. 🤞flare with now ease.

in reply to Tuppeny51

I’ve actually liked lockdown no work stress . I don’t know what has set me off 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have been the same and it feels like I have been going through this on and off for the last couple of years without any RD treatment for about 18 months while waiting for oesophagus surgery. Had a telephone consultation yesterday and all of a sudden going to start treatment for RD and also for osteoporosis. I do not have a date for surgery but do have an appointment to meet the Gastro team at the beginning of October. I hope you get some relief very soon. xx

Yes I never know if I'm coming down with a cold or if it's RA until a few days elapse. I also get lots of problems with my jaw alongside, to the extent that I can't open my mouth and It is agonising. I've been shown exercises to do that do really help keep it supple and help prevent the aches. Side to side and hold, and open and shut. Never bring bottom jaw forward.

I used to think a flare meant when a hand swelled up or the tendons hurt, but now know it's more of a weariness thing.

These symptoms could all be a bad flare but you need to check with GP. If you are not shielding and have been in contact with other people you must isolate for 14 days in case your symptoms are covid related. x

I don’t have anything to add to the other comments ... just want to say that I too have been in a flare that’s lasted two weeks. ( awful) Headaches swollen fingers and ohhhhhhh the fatigue 😴🥱I’m guessing it must be weather related . On the upside I’ve started feeling better the last two day’s so fingers crossed ( well if they could cross 🤦‍♀️) for you too!
