I have been taking it since last June along with MTX and my rheumatologist told me if I do get Covid symptoms to come of the MTX stay on the hydroxy take zinc and I will start praying.... Now the Donald is taking hydroxy, Z pack and zinc which is a triple dose of meds that has been proven in different location to work but others do not agree. Lets face it its all very confusing and at the end of the day a vaccine is far away as the world has had 7 major virus's and none have had a vaccine. The flu virus only 40% effective in a good year, aids no vaccine, hepitius c no vaccine because virus's are hard to beat. Good news is we have just over 100 scientific labs around the planet working hard on this and I hope we have learned that eating animals we should not eat will stop or bio labs that engineer virus's will be shut down and exposed.

I suspect what he means is that it should not be prescribed outside of a hospital setting.

I'm sure that anyone taking hydroxychlorquine would have been to an outpatient appointment at some point and seen a specialist who prescribed it and then passed the responsibility onto a GP.

That's in most situations anyway.

If you're prescribed it you just keep putting your prescription in as per usual.

I think was is meant is that HDQ is prescribed by a hospital Dr, a specialist, people taking it are under specialist supervision.

We are monitored through our regular blood tests and we have an advice line. Unfortunately I can’t take it because I’m allergic.many have no problems

Dr Hillary meant it is dangerous if people get hold of Hydroxy and take it indiscriminately without being prescribed it.

When it is prescribed by a doctor ......it is because tests have proved that it could be helpful to treat a certain condition.

Many people on here are prescribed it and are living very happily on it .....so don’t be scared if you are prescribed it ........but don’t just go off online and order some just because you think it might save you from COVID-19 because it won’t!

Would it be very wrong of me to wish the Trump person to experience side effects?

It is surely a different situation in the U.K. than the US? Here in the U.K. we can only get hydroxychloroquine on prescription while this is not true there. Not sure how people here could obtain it without it being prescribed. Other interesting point is that the doctors seem to be emphasising heart problems as the major side effect while I never remember that mentioned when I was taking it for 2 years. I was taken off it because of eye problems.

You can get anything if you really want it 😊 I’m sorry to hear you gave retinopathy, that’s really bad luck to get it after such a short time on hydroxy. I hope it was caught early.

Yes thank you it was caught very early and the damage reversed, it appears. Still having yearly ophthalmic appointments but all seems to be well.

My rheumatologist wanted me to add hydroxychloroquine to sulphasalazine a while back but I said no, respectfully, as I had read about possible implications for the eyes and as I already have background retinopathy because of diabetes and above normal eye pressures, I decided it was too risky. Not heard about heart issues though.
