So with the most vulnerable told to stay at home since day 1 because they were more likely to catch covid19 and if they did catch it then they could be seriously ill, now we are being told to go to work , we all know it’s impossible to keep a 2 metre gap in most factories. And I read somewhere that they might drop the furlough percentage to 60% which some just couldn’t live on . Does this mean we will have to risk ourselves because we have to go back to work because of financial issues ?

I've been worrying about this too. I work for a small business so if they say they are re opening I don't know what I'll do.

Plus if the furlough is reduced to 60% then the decision is taken out of my hands.

I've been arguing with folk on Twitter who've sa said if you dont feel safe dont go. Like it's that simple. 🤦‍♀️

If only it were that simple!!

That's what Boris said last night and speak to health safety if social distancing is not being followed !

Shambles.

As far as I can tell there isn't any actually support for workers. I'd be happy to be proved wrong. But from what I can gather if you decide it's not safe to work your employer has no obligation to pay you until it is safe.

Exactly, like speaking to HSE or your employer will resolve anything. Shambles.

It is good news. Hopefully my employer will choose to take advantage of it.

The thing that worries me is that it's all down to if you have a good employer. I'm not sure about mine...

But if u have a letter saying that yr at risk surely u have to be furloughed

Cheylann profile image
Cheylann in reply to Angjoplin

No it's not. If you don't feel safe at work you can refuse to go. That is what Pm said.

Cheylann profile image

If you can prove you are in shielding group then you can't go to work.

Cheylann profile image
Cheylann

He made it quite clear if you are in the shielding group you should stay inside until end June so no you can't have to go to work. If you can't work from home then you need to negotiate with your employer. Where did you hear about furlough dropping to 60%? That is rubbish.

Tonight in daily update they have extended the furlough till October after which time employers will have to help.

Don't ever listen to rumours as that is what they are rumours.

I cannot understand why people are so confused. What the prime minister said is perfectly clear. You need to take responsibility for yourself and use common sense. It's simple!

The rumours were in most papers and also on the news , so I better stop listening to them . It’s ok u saying it’s simple but when u can’t pay yr bills or put food on yr table it’s not so easy to do the simple things . Maybe you should write to the news and tell them to stop spreading rumours!!

Maybe you should check the news is fact before getting stressed out about things that aren't/haven't happened.

And I like you are in the same situation battling to make ends meet.

What I said was simple was what the prime minister said about who and when should return to work. It was very clear.

Just google furlough 60% u will see why I was worried that I would be 40% down on my wages , shielded or not shielded I could not loose 40% of my pay so now you see why I wrote the post !!

Lucky you are getting anything! Imagine if the didn't pay furlough. You would have to find another job.

Buckybri profile image
Buckybri in reply to Cheylann

I know , or just have to go and chance going to work , because if it was to go down less than 80% then if work let me I would have to take my chances and go in .

Cheylann in reply to Buckybri

Why are you considered high risk?

Buckybri profile image
Buckybri in reply to Cheylann

I was on steroids and also take mtx and imraldi among two blood pressure meds , but I do wonder how high risk we really are after reading that most of the deaths were from diabetes and dementia.

Cheylann profile image
Cheylann in reply to Buckybri

Don't be fooled into thinking most of the deaths were from underlying causes as whilst true there were many deaths of young healthy people and not so young healthy people caused by the virus itself.

Maybe us immune suppressed people aren't that high risk as the immune system goes crazy when infected with Covid resulting in massive inflammation in the lungs and that is what kills those healthy people not an underlying illness.

You are obviously more at risk of dying from it if you have diabetes are overweight etc.

I believe if the guidance is clear, and people are given time to make appropriate adjustments to the workplace, transport and childcare is sorted then people will go back to work without much complaint.

The issue is they were told to go back to work, without any of the above.

I think that on the furlough side of things they have done a good job , I’m just glad they kept it at 80% , because I feel a lot of people would have just gone back early because of financial issues . I would of thought by the time the furlough scheme is ended this horrible virus would have nearly gone .

Nothing is in place, the London tubes where chaotic on Monday.

London transport is about to go bankrupt

The schools have no idea what they are meant to be doing.

The government guidance on workplace still has empty spaces.

And your opening sentence says it all Ajay....the guidance was clear they go back from wed does not not have to be wed....

(no disrespect meant)

and on Sunday evening, Boris said Monday, then on Monday said Wednesday.....after people had tried to go to work

Buckybri profile image

Yea people went back to work on Monday , you would of thought the government would have watched that speech before it went out ( they must have ) and picked the bones out of it but they obviously didn’t .
