Night time support

Hi sorry to talk about something trivial in these horrible times.

I'm just looking for some suggestions on supporting my joints over night. I'm in ALOT of pain atm and i bought a fancy pillow and it is causing me more problems. Its my shoulders and hip that is causing me most pain and keeping me up.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received x

I laid on top of a soft quilt cover doubled over then put a lighter quilt over me, I did have a full length pillow that went down the front of body from chest to knees that helped my shoulders and knees. I also had a hot shower and brufen gel before bed xx

Ps that's not trivial...its horrid and so uncomfortable to try and sleep, it's one of the worst things I think xx

That's NOT trivial, sadly I have no suggestions. I have the same problem myself. :-(

It’s not trivial. I’ve tried umpteen pillows , knee pillows , body pillow.. just when I think I’ve cracked it another ache some where else 🙄🙄unfortunately everyone is different

This is not trivial and all and what this lovely forum is for. I am really sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain. I’m afraid I have no helpful suggestions though. Thinking of you. Gail x

So sorry to hear you are suffering and it is trial and error trying to get anything that either relives it or doesn't create another ache or pain. I know it may be difficult right now under these difficult days we are going through but wondered if it would be helpful getting some input or advice from a physio or occupational therapist in regards to posture when in bed or at night time, maybe something to help ease joints before going to bed or any other therapeutic aids or suggestions they may have to help at night?

Sometimes as I get so tired of pain at night I put Vick’s all over the joints and the warmth seems to help on some nights for me😔

It’s not trivial.

Some times the fancy pillows etc aren’t as good as they claim.

The full length pillows can be helpful.

I bought a side sleeper pillow from Dunelm.

Then I have a spare folded dressing gown, then 3pillows,which I rearrange depending on how my aches and pains are. Sometimes I rearrange during the night.

I don’t know what pain killers you are on. Perhaps you could try taking your painkillers just before you go to bed.

Please, it’s not trivial.

I have tried all sorts of fancy pillow shapes! Now I rely on:

1.a soft topper over a firm mattress

2. a slightly slippery sheet over this, I found silk was too slippery and I couldn't turn over, but this type has a slight sheen from being very closely woven, but still has a little 'grip'

3. lots of ordinary pillows that I can arrange to support whatever needs supporting tonight, usually laid either side of me to keep me as straight as possible

4. a lightweight silk duvet in a cotton cover over the top - with a honeycomb blanket on top if it's really cold, or just a sheet if it's very warm

5. If my feet are very bad, I put in a cage at the bottom of the bed to lift the duvet off them, with an extra small blanket to cover the draughty gap this makes at the bottom of the bed, but I don't need this at the moment

Hope that helps!
