Are you immune?

Twinboys profile image
42 Replies

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all well. I’m in the USA and am listening to doctors on the news say how they don’t want to use up all the drugs for corona virus since those drugs are used for RA/lupus. They also are saying that China is seeing people who have RA/lupus and have been on these drugs are basically immune to corona or just not getting it. I’m curious if there is anyone that got corona who has RA or lupus that have been on meds? Thank you! Stay healthy!

Personally I wouldn’t believe this, and certainly not at the moment. To make a statement like that there needs to have been a careful analysis of data and I very much doubt whether the data on patients with RA/lupus taking Hydroxychloroquine has even been collected yet!

Twinboys in reply tohelixhelix

I agree but doctors are constantly saying it here in the USA which is why the government will not let doctors prescribe the medication to corona patients you have to get it from the hospital. They are monitoring the meds so doctors don’t quickly prescribe and then there isn’t any left for RA patients. I’m curious if anyone on here has gotten corona?

A doctor can’t prescribe any drug Here & in the US unless it is licensed for the disease he wants want to use it for.

Trials to license drugs to treat people CV19 will no doubt be taking place...but when a license will be issued for use outside hospitals ....who knows?

I have just read this and then read your post!

Majority of 6,200 doctors from 30 nations said malaria drug( Hydroxychloroquine) was most effective

Doctors across Europe, the US and China have been given licence to prescribe

But the UK is dragging its feet until clinical trials show it is safe and effective

World Health Organization claims that no medicine can prevent or cure virus

We will have to wait and see if it gets licensed here when it’s safe to do so and the trials here have been completed.

Oh here in the USA they are giving it to corona patients and people are being interviewed (some from hospital beds) saying they are getting better in less then 24 hours. Some phoned their family knowing they were going to die while nurses hold the phone for them and then given the drug and they actually lived. That’s why I was curious if anyone on this site has gotten corona?

This is being researched very thoroughly by scientists.

My rheumy told me it is being investigated but stressed it's not immunity but some RA drugs might ,maybe, or maybe not help with the virus.

Do not think you are immune, we are not and there is no proof at the moment .

Do look on NRAS there is a European study we could take part in online that may help the scientists, it's very short and they ask you your health weekly. Worth helping the research I think. But do NOT think we are immune, stay home, stay safe, 🥰

“Immune” wasn’t the correct word more of a deterrent. Just curious if anyone has gotten corona on this site while on RA drugs.

Hi there Twinboys, hope you're keeping safe and well over there. There are large clinical trials going on at the moment, but there's been no proof of hydroxychloroquine working yet, as far as I know. This link to the European Medicines Agency has more info: ema.europa.eu/en/news/covid...

I am on hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate, and have a suspected case and I've seen another couple of posts on here this morning of people who have/have had it so I would be very cautious.

My girlfriend’s son was so so sick. Went to the doctor and the doctor said he definitely has corona. Three weeks later still coughing and still sick so she took him to a testing site and it came back negative. That’s why I’m wondering anyone that did test positive get severe with it like hospitalized.

AgedCrone profile image

I think if it were true NRAS & other Rheumatology Associations would have mentioned it - don’t you?

There is a lot of fake news circulating right now.....

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply toAgedCrone

BBC news tonight had a doctor talking about the clinical trials they are doing on hydroxy at the moment

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply tohelixhelix

Yes Trials...not treatment.....I don’t think Drs in UK will be using it just yet!

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply toAgedCrone

Trials on real patients tho’!

AgedCrone profile image

Yes I saw that ....but will still take time...hope for the volunteers it is successful ,

I’m in the USA and we’re using it and the results are amazing. People on their death bed and about 12 hours later sitting up without oxygen on.

Who is reporting this information?

What evidence is there ? ( not anecdotes)

Brychni profile image
Brychni in reply toAgedCrone

Although: when I was phoning around pharmacies the other day to see if my prescription would be fulfilled, I was told by the pharmacist at Boots that GPs in the UK have been prescribing it for not only C19 but themselves!

Twinboys profile image
Twinboys in reply toBrychni

That’s what they are afraid of that’s why here in the US a doctor can’t prescribe it it has to come from the hospital (a doctor treating a patient in the hospital)

Twinboys profile image
Twinboys in reply toAgedCrone

Oh no we are using it here to cure corona in the USA that’s fact. People on their death bed as nurses are holding their phones up to say goodbye to family members and then they get the drugs and are literally sitting up in 12 hours. That’s not even a question, my question is has anyone here gotten (TESTED POSITIVE) while on the drugs and I still don’t think anyone has. I did hear the UK isn’t using it yet for corona so maybe that’s why you thought it’s fake news but in the US it’s being used and VERY successful! Stay healthy.

AgedCrone profile image

Not in NYC It’s not,...just spoke to my relative in NY & he hasn’t heard that....where in US is it happening ?

Twinboys profile image
Twinboys in reply toAgedCrone

Hydroxychloroquine they have been trying on many patients at Colombia University Hospital. They are using the malaria drug and zpack right now on patients in the hospital. The doctors said they are not seeing patients with lupus who take hydroxychloroquine not seeing those patients develop covid. That’s why I was asking if there was anyone that actually “tested positive” on hydroxychloroquine and if so how bad they had it. Nit that they think they had it because like I said my friend’s son was told he had it by his dr. and continued with symptoms three weeks later and test came back negative.

Fauci and Birx, in the US, epidemiological advisors, keep saying:

There's no magic vaccine or therapy. It's just behaviors."

Twinboys profile image
Twinboys in reply toMmrr

I know. I get it. I just wanted to know “is there anyone on this site that is on RA drugs that has tested positive for corona and if they wanted to share their experience” That was my question from the beginning. Stay home, wash your hands, no miracle drug, everything is a trial, believe me I’m in the NY area, in the thick of it all - trust me I get it! Stay healthy!

in reply toTwinboys

Hi Twinboys I think if no response to your original question that the answer might be no for the time being.

Twinboys profile image
Twinboys in reply to

Hi there. And I hope it remains with no reply because that would be great! Stay safe!

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply toTwinboys

Well no reply may not mean what you hope it means because in the UK the testing is different. So like Whaleroad said, he is on hydroxy and has had Covid-19 according to his doctor, but has not had the test.

Quite frankly I think some of the stories that are supposed to be “miracles” are fake news. It may well be that hydroxy turns out to be a great drug for this in some cases - and I hope it does as easy to manufacture. I would like to see a report from Columbia that has been peer reviewed.

Especially needed for the US as it sounds like you are in a horrible position with the way it is developing. Trump will have a lot to answer for. Good luck!

Twinboys profile image
Twinboys in reply tohelixhelix

So Trump wants it to be used. He said we have 29 million doses and have had years of side effect reviews. The doctor that created it said it has been used at least a billion times. Someone I know thru a friend was just on a respirator and she finally got it to try and she is now off the respirator. No miracle drug but definitely worth trying. Some doctors like Dr. Oz (well respected doctor in NY even though he’s on tv) said give it to patients even if it doesn’t help all may help some. Trump wants everything to be tried. When you go into war those doctors use what they have. The UNFORTUNATE problem is that here in the USA you have more lawyers then doctors. Everyone is sue happy here and a new law should be made that no lawsuits regarding corona when this is over. If someone else was in office our boarders probably STILL would be open.

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply toTwinboys

Well Doctor Anthony Fauci doesn't feel the evidence is sufficient, and he’s a well respected doctor and I’m not. All I know is that hydroxy can cause serious allergic reactions.

Friend of a friend evidence still an anecdote, not proof. There is a proper double blind study going in so I think it better to wait to find out.

I just hope nobody with lupus or RA who can’t get their drugs doesn’t suffer because of drugs being hoovered up by the US.

Have a look at the Global Rheumatology Alliance feed - they are not convinced either

mobile.twitter.com/rheum_co...

They report that they have data on 22 individuals on HCQ who have caught the virus, of these 7 have resolved COVID19 infection, 12 have unresolved infection, 3 unknown. There was 1 death.

8/22 have been hospitalized; of those NOT hospitalized, no medical intervention was reported.

4/8 of those hospitalized needed some type of supplemental oxygen or non-invasive/invasive ventilation

Oh I absolutely LOVE Dr. Fauci and Dr. Brix!! That’s why a doctor can’t prescribe it (at least no here in the US) for Covid19 unless it comes from the hospital because they don’t want it running out for the patients with lupus etc. Sounds like someone posted that that is exactly what they are doing in the UK though.

I am very interested in this theory. I’ve been in close proximity with someone who I suspect had a mild dose of COVID. Yet, I’ve had no symptom that would cause concern. I’ve had a flu jab and a weekly dose of mtx, folic acid and daily cod liver oil tablets. (Fruit and veg). So aside from an occasional dry cough (Which I think is spring related). Not a dicky bird.
