Tramadol

Been on two tramadol a day for around two months now and now with the biological meds working well I thought i would finish the course and come off them , my doc told me that two a day would not be addictive, well I don’t know if I’m addictive to them but I didn’t sleep a wink last night I was so restless it was like I had things inside my legs and hands moving I was so restless it was awful , it must be because I have had no tramadol. Does anyone know how long this goes on for ?

Hi Buckybri. You may want to read the article relating to Tramadol - link below. It might help answer yourquestion.

It sounds awful. Poor you. I didn't read it properly so I am just wondering how long it takes to taper off. As it's an opioid, I assume you have to wean off.

I though because I was on a small dose I would of been ok

I would definitely ring your GP on Monday though just to be on the safe side.

I wish I could help, I’ve only ever taken 1 a day when things were really bad. Good luck🙏

Been on tramadol for around 5 years, taking 3 a day . I don’t find it addictive, I would recommend seeing your doctor

Try asking the main/head pharmacist where you get your prescriptions? I have found mine to be invaluable when the doc hasn’t been available but also you could try asking the person at your GP who organises the scripts and see if they will get the GP to phone you? Again this could be difficult given current circumstances. Good luck.

I am still taking Tramadol. So never gone through withdrawal, but I know someone who had jumpy legs after stopping Tramadol, in the first few months it was quite bad, every few minutes for hours through the night.. after the first 2 months, they slowly reduced and stopped completely around 6 months later. He did however get a prescription for Gabapentin to help ease the problem.

He was also taking Tramadol for longer than 12 months.. Not sure how long exactly.

I finished a 2 week course and had jumpy legs

Been on eight a day for about two years.

I come off them every now and again, cold turkey, so to speak, then return once the pain level reaches 9.

I've never suffered any withdrawal nor have they ever effected me in any way, except relieving pain.

You might find your lack of sleep is down to the stories that circulate about this particular drug, working away in your subconscious mind.

Or maybe it is, in fact, an early indication of a depency building up, in which case weaning you off them is a viable solution.

Best of luck, if the latter is true.

Oh no it’s deff the tramadol I took one yesterday morning and slept ok last night but I guarantee that if I don’t have two this morning then tonight my legs and arms will feel like they r full of worms trying to get out it’s awful

As you’ve been on them less than 8 weeks & you're experiencing withdrawal symptoms you should be able to safely taper them over 1 or 2 weeks. Despite him saying you shouldn’t find them addictive you are obviously experiencing withdrawal effects so your GP should give you a taper plan specifically for you.

Yr right I’m obviously addicted to them , I do like them though lol

Oddly it's one med that I won't try. I say oddly because I am on other meds that let's say I’d have to carefully taper off! I hope your GP can formulate a safe taper for you anyway.

Hi.. I was reading up on the tramadol and seen your post.. I had a course for my sciatica and I had finished my course and 2 nights ago I had restless legs and arms .. I took a hot bath a cold shower trying to stop it I walked around my house like a zombie until 4:30am it was dreadful . I was scared to go to bed the night after I case it happened again but it was a one off .. but reading yours I believe it must be a side effect

I had similar with pregabalin, it killed the pain of Shingles but had to be tapered off.

Isn’t tramadol an opioid :( I would have thought that it is very likely to be addictive or at the very least your body gets used to needing it. Maybe your doc could wean you off it rather than you going cold turkey so to speak?
