Self isolating

Hi all

Strange times we are in right now. So I'm in the high risk group. What does self isolating actually mean? Can I have a solitary walk, can I sit and have dinner with my family?

Everyone is banding these terms but no explanations.

Thanks

As I understand it you are expected to self isolate and, as you are, any of your family living with you should too. You (and they) can still go for a walk but must keep at least 2 metres distance from others not in your family.

There was a programme on Channel 4 yesterday evening which explains how to self isolate. Perhaps you can watch it on catch up.

I will watch it tonight thanks Lola x

We are shielding now not isolating. We are advised to stay indoors for 12 weeks. If possible separate bedrooms if possible, separate towels. Separate bathrooms if possible .

If someone gets symptoms they go into isolation or a week and as you are I a household ll of you for 2 weeks.

Good programme maybe on catch up on chanel 4.

Hi Allanah, have you had confirmation you need to shield..maybe a text before the letters are received., or are you taking it from the information online? Thank you! Xx

From chanel 4 programme. And government briefing on tv who stated letters will go out tomorrow. I know from the pinned posts from NRAS I am at high risk and I totally expect shielding so we have already put this in place x

Hee hee. See the document you just posted !

In the text I received it said not to leave the house at all but just that I could open a window. However I can't see any problem with going into my own garden for a bit of air, but walks are out for the time being.

in reply to

Yes that's how I am interpreting it. Garden but no walks.

Hi Kiki

Well, it was clarified to me - I'm not even allowed to poke my nose out of the front door for a minimum of 12 weeks, but that's really because of the pulmonary fibrosis.

all my hospital appointments have been cancelled. I'm having a telephonic one with my consultant tomorrow.

Stay safe. Jo xx

If you have a garden Jora are you still not allowed outside. I'm not sure about this aspect it gets confusing.

Keep safe too.

Well, I'm assuming I can sit in my garden, as no-one else has access to it. Unless they discover that foxes are carriers!

Ah that's good. Didn't like the thought of you not even poking your nose out.

In my case it would be a squirrel!

Poor you Jora.

If you get bored you can ring me x x

Bless you, Kiki. I might well do that, when my lungs are in quiet mode. This constant coughing is so exhausting. I long for some sea air; it's getting there that would be the problem!

Something to look forward to when this all dies down. Do you have inhalers? Oxygen? My step Dad was diagnosed with p. F in November after a bad chest infection. Not nice!

I don’t have oxygen at the moment. It’s the conversion that’s the problem because of the ‘ground glass opacification’. The Sjrogrens is unhelpful. I nebulise a lot and use a vibratory device. It’s not fun and is sooooo tiring.

Nightie night. J xx

To add to what others have said a lot will depend in what you family do. Are they still at work and in contact with lots of people? As that will make it much harder.

in reply tohelixhelix

No. Hubbie works from home, son has severe M.E and is housebound.

But hubbie is going out for food.

I tried going out for a walk with my dog only to meet two sperate groups of people declaring they were self isolating - not to protect themselves! One person had just returned from Spain (so should have been in quarentine really) The second person with two small children stated, one child was poorly with cough but might not be C19 and Dr had said to self isolate but OK to go for a walk!!!!!!!!! Confusion reigns I think.

Came home a nervous wreck and I live in a small hamlet. To their credit they and I kept our distance but others won't. So I'm keeping to the garden and if I do go for a walk it will be at less sociable hours. Although just on MTX my WBC, neutrophils etc have been below normal, so I know from discussion with consultant that I am over suppressed but can't change meds because of C19 etc. So I would say avoid any paths where you'd need to hop over a wall or through a hedge to keep your distance. Keep safe.

in reply toRosieA

Oh Rosie that is worrying. OK to go for a walk but not while coughing silly mum has got muddled. Don't think I could hop over a wall if I tried. Mtx did that to me when I was on high dose I'm fine on 7.5mg 👍 hope it settles down. Stay safe Kiki x x
