Just can't make my mind up! Bad luck or RA -one of them is guilty.

After terrible upper abdominal pain over the weekend (a repeat of incident just before Xmas - put down to steroid induced gastritis) the suspision is that I have gallstones - and extreme pain is biliary colic (now waiting scan etc). Apart from being female I don't fit in the normal groups who are vulnerable to this, BMI low healthy, don't eat processed food, low fat diet etc etc - a paragon of virtue (So, so boring). Tingling in mind, reminded me that there was a suspision of an increased risk for gallbladder involvement and RA. But from futher reading it, I'm not so sure. I know it's easy to blame everything on RA, but in 5 months have managed, tooth absess (old and woody- waiting root canal) and now gallbladder. Who knew that there would be so much to do as one matured! Heading for medical degree by default as glean up on everything. Anyone else know of link or just bad luck?

Sorry your suffering Rosie.. made me think about my own gallbladder which I had removed 14 years ago but I now know I was suffering from RD symptoms ( undiagnosed) like you fit are well good BMI might be something in it.

It used to be said that typically gall stones occurred in those who were fair, fat and forty! Recently I have heard of people in their 20s having them. I hope your pain is soon relieved, whatever the cause.

Hi Rosie,

I’m so sorry you are suffering suspected gall stones. It really is a vile pain, very different than Acute RA pain but awful in its own way.

These days surgery is common and so much less invasive with laparoscopic Cholecystectomy than the open surgery I had twenty two years ago when I was 30 and a gulls egg size stone removed, (no way that sucker was getting through any bile ducts! )

I had been having gall bladder symptoms since my early twenties., ignored and put down to indigestion.

A fair few people in my family suffered too, so a familial link there I think.

Little did I know then I would be diagnosed with RA when I was 45 with acute explosive onset in multiple joints.

Earlier symptoms had been dismissed by myself as wear and tear and general aches especially in my fingers.

Note to self - must listen to body- should know better and no such thing as mild RA.

Good luck , you will feel so much better when your gall bladder symptoms are resolved.

I feel for you.

Mx

Thank you. Just mulling over phoning the Doc's again as have persistent dull ache in stomach. Not sure it's the potential stones or a result of an hours gardening. Also have family link - mother with gallbladder (asymptomatic). I think you are right, we don't listen enough or are concerned about being labelled hypocondriac. The pain, as you say, is rather unpleasant and I've had quite a bit of that after years of endomestiosis. I'm pathetic after surgery as the either the anesthetic / pain killers make me very ill and I aways end up being in hospital longer than planned. I will feel better afterwards that's for sure. Decided to pop another omeprazole as see what happens. Oh the joy!!
