I need a cheap way to take about 7 away. Journey post 28hrs including an airline journey. Read Victoria feom NRAS suggested asking lloyds healthcare at home, which i have done, they said no, same as hospital. Can anyone tell me a decend insulalated cool bag that doesnt cost the earth. Doing two trips very close to each other, so need something to use. Suggested to ROCHE they start a loan system of these, as happened by insulin pump company.

Thanks everyone x

I’ve just bought a Frio cooling wallet. I don’t know if that would suit your needs? They do them in various sizes. Mine holds two pens ( not sure how tocilizumab is taken)

Doesn’t Frio just stop pens getting hot, rather than keeping them at the cool temperature ie under 8 degrees? A friend gave me one as a present and my pens wouldn’t fit into it either....enbrel would, but MTX too fat.

7 pens is quite a lot, so bags big enough are expensive. Presumably that’s nearly 2 months, so have you explored whether there’s any way to get a prescription filled at your destination?

I don’t know Helixhelix, I spoke to the pharmacy delivery people about travelling with pens and that’s what they suggested. I don’t need to take a lot of them though. Mine just need to be kept cool though, that’s why I said I didn’t know if it would suit witsends needs.

Cant get prescription filled, as ive tried all options i can think of. Frio is what i use for insulin but dont keep tocilizumab at correct temperature. Im going to two different places, will take over 26 hrs without a fridge Inc airplane, and driving.

Know very expensive hence my suggestion to ROCHE to do a loan scheme. Im there 6 injections days but like a spare!

Have you asked your GP or your chemists for a loan?

It is prefilled, but larger than insulin pen, & temperature has to be 2-8 degrees. Frio which i have old one, doesnt do that low a temperature, else id be laughing instead of distressed.

Ok, sorry. I didn’t know it had to be kept at a certain temp just you needed a insulated cool bag. I guess you will have to buy what you need and then sell it on after to recoup some of the cost.

I went to Japan with this medication with a medigenix bag (about £50 amazon). I have weekly injections so only needed a couple. The most infuriating thing is that i took spare cool packs to freeze for when the two I was using started to thaw and the airline wouldn't freeze them. I just managed. Everyone else was very helpful. I can see that airlines won't refrigerate drugs but why are cool packs a problem?

There is a company that sell medical cool bags on amazon for long journeys. I have flown to China direct around 13 hours but I had a small medical cool bag which are thicker than normal ones, I used small gel packs from Tesco which are for lunch boxes to get around liquid ban. I also had a letter from my biological nurse but I think Lloyds healthcare may provide one if asked.

Lloyds dont provide one for this drug even tjo they and manufacture rochr say it has to be kept cold at tjst temperature! Asked everyone as i dont have any spare cash to buy one, if i did, i would.

If you are going on a 28 hour journey that suggests a long haul flight? And the cost of a proper cool bag is really not that much compared to the cost of your ticket surely?

Search for Medicool. They have a range of products which could help solve your problems.

googleadservices.com/pagead...

is probably suitable. I have a smaller version as my Cimzia is fortnightly. I have bit more flexibility now as Cimzia is reckoned to be okay for 10 days below 25C.

Frio products are not suitable for you, I do use them now with the flexibility I have with my Cimzia.

You will need a letter from your medication supplier to show at airport security. As this is bulky pack check if your airline counts it as part of your carry on allowance.
