The numbers keep climbing. I hope you are all taking as many precautions as you can.
Coronavirus: The numbers keep climbing. I hope you are... - NRAS
Coronavirus
I think it almost inevitable that it reaches the UK at some point, but the individual risk is small. (I'm not sure where you are?) Sensible precautions, like handwashing are probably sensible, but life goes on.
My son in law is a bio medical scientist with the testing lab for coronavirus in Scotland, they are receiving much information on a daily basis from China. There is not much else to do.
There is a lot of media frenzy going on.
Edit: I've just read there is now also a confirmed case in Germany.
We only have two confirmed cases , husband and wife, who travelled to China. I live in Canada 🇨🇦 BC. We are being told that we have very low risk of infection but it is new and still many unknowns. My daughter is currently doing her masters at UBC in Molecular Biology and Chemistry.
We have 5 cases in Australia so far
Even tho’ the chinese didn't react as quickly as they might have done, I’m hoping that the precautions now in place will slow the spread. I always wash my hands regularly, but since there are only three confirmed cases in France many hundreds of kilometres away from me I’m not going to do anything more right now.
Me neither....in fact apart from sealing every door and window & never leaving the house what could you do?
Absolutely nothing ......it’s a virus that is spread by droplets in the air that you can’t see.
The milkman could have it as he leaves your milk on your doorstep if you are lucky enough to get your milk delivered.
The paperboy could have it when he puts your paper through the door.
In fact we could all have it right now if that person we talked to in the park last week was incubating it.
Save your worries for something you can do something about!
My biggest precaution is not getting hyped up and start worry mongering about something beyond my control - stress after all has killed more people than this virus over the years. The rest is common sense used to avoid the everyday bugs I meet at work hand washing, rest, daily vitamins, healthy diet etc - won’t be changing any of that any day soon!
All the best
Ali
I'm not worried as yet, but can't help being seriously concerned looking at the film footage coming out of China. Whether or not I start to worry depends on how much of a grip the virus gets in the UK. One thing that does scare me some, and also the medical authorities, is that this virus looks to be contagious during incubation before symptoms appear.
I'm not trying to scare monger here, just saying how I see it at the minute.
For what it's worth I think it's good to be kindly towards the concern you feel. Sometimes reassurance doesn't cut it. My OH gives me daily updates on the virus. He diced with death with an opportunist infection in sept. I think anxiety should be respected, not fed by worrying endlessly, but given its place. I send you soothing vibes.
Hi Stayloose, just to clarify things....I pay no attention to what the sensationalist media have to say. Neither do I trust everything that governments have to say, including the UK government. I glean as much reliable info as I can, or what I think is reliable, weigh things up and take whatever steps I think are, or will be needed to suit my own situation, which isn't much for now. I am certainly not trying to influence what others think and do...that's entirely up to them. Neither do I seek reassurance from anyone. As mentioned, I will only start worrying if and when this virus manages to get a firm grip in the UK, as no doubt will many other members if that happens.
Thanks for the soothing vibes, I'll hold on to them until needed.
Well , as one of the first people to catch swine flu during that epidemic , do what you can! I caught it at a big festival and our GPs were spot on with diagnosis and treatment. I was quarantined for quite a few weeks which was hard. But I got the drugs they developed and recovered! Hand gel, wash hands, that's about it.
It is sensible to be cautious but thats about it.
