They will rebuild me !

Some of you may know, after a bad fall last year that resulted in my badly smashing both wrists, I’ve needed to have surgery to rebuild them. I had the surgery done in my left wrist in September and then straight into gallbladder removal at the beginning of December. I now have my date for my ankle replacement and heel fusion on 22 February. Dates for the other wrist and the other ankle will follow. NEARLY THERE!!!

Oh bless you . What a rollercoaster you’ve been on. It’s marvellous how upbeat you are despite it all. I take my hat off to you. Here’s to a successful op or ops

Aw thank you, that’s kind.

I don’t know if I’m upbeat or just numbed to it all!

Like all of us, we learn to just keep going, don’t we? And at the end of the day, at least my boys can be replaced- there are those that are so much more worse off x

Blimey darling your getting your moneys worth out of the NHS lol. Laughter aside you have really been through the mill. Lets hope this year will be a brighter one with you darling. Hugs.xxx

Thanks so much Sylvi. After these last three operations, which they plan to do 12 weeks apart, I’ve been told I will need a rest. Still to have my elbows replaced and possibly op on my spine but consultant said he’s going to hold off for as long as I’d feasibly possible . After that, I feel pretty certain they will have it under control - frankly, there won’t be much more joints to damage 😀

You'll be metal mickey by the time you are finished darling. xxxxx

Gosh, you poor soul, you have my sympathy. I slid off the bed on Wednesday night and broke my right wrist - I’m right handed so it’s not much fun something you are well aware of.

Years ago my son broke both wrists like you have done. Poor boy, he was at an age where he really did not want the level of personal care required.

I’m off to the fracture clinic tomorrow, hopefully this is setting nicely, might need a new plaster or worse an operation to rebuild! It’s good that they can rebuild but I’d rather not need it. Good luck with all your surgery 😉

I hope all goes well for you and you can avoid surgery. All the very best x

Crikey that’s a lot to deal with all in one go. It’s nice to hear that you’re staying positive and sounds like your plan of action is working. You’ll look back on all this soon and hopefully be back to a more normal you. Keep up the fighting spirit that’s what keeps most of us going through tough times and keep posting and letting us know how you’re getting on. Sounds as though 2020 might be a great year for you eventually 🤗🤞😃.

My heart goes out to you Marie...as you say you are nearly there...I don’t know if I could have retained my sense of humour having gone through your battles!

Onwards & Upwards...I hope 2020 is a really good year for you.

Do you know, before I was diagnosed, first with AS and then RA, they were testing for bone cancer. I was terrified and had already planned for worse case scenario with regards where my children would go! So, I can honestly say that for me, no matter how many operations and bad days, this for me is the better option! Like everyone, I have bad days but I’m lucky that they can replace my joints and I’m still working and able to do things - every cloud and all that 😀

Thank you, for your kind words.

Yes we have to keep going I agree but so much suffering along the way. I am suffering a really bad two week flare at present and it’s only in my left hand and wrist so thank you, you have made me feel a little more positive. I am so pleased you are on the last part of being rebuilt!!

Sorry to hear all this but at least you're getting rebuilt as you say. I'm thinking of complaining to NHS after having both hips, knees ,a shoulder and knuckles replaced....I still can't do what the bionic man could do 😂

Seriously good luck with your ops xx

Hi Eiram, that’s an awful lot of surgeries you are dealing with, bless you. I hope those don’t interrupt your RA drugs for long, if at all.

I am fortunate that only one of my falls, so far, resulted in a fracture. Your courage is admirable; take care and good luck.

Eiram50 profile image
Eiram50 in reply tocharisma

Thank you.

That’s the down side, being on and off meds. It makes battling through that but harder. I had just started back on biologics and all the other DMARDs when I got the letter to tell me I’d be in again next month and I’ve to come off everything 3 weeks before.

Falling is horrendous. I get a bit panicky at a strong wind or a wet pavement! I’ve been told my balance is horrendous and have attended 3 falls classes - I was the youngest by about 35/40 years!

Such fun

charisma profile image
charisma in reply toEiram50

😢 I hope RA won’t flare.

Re being the youngest, nothing to do with falls but I’d be so discouraged during the first year after diagnosis, by much older people walking past me at a rate that used to be slow for me!

But I hope you will feel the benefit of all the surgeries. 🙂

wishing you the best, but what are falls classes, i've never heard of them and could use a couple but don't think they do them here in N.I ??

Eiram50 profile image
Eiram50 in reply toGranAmie

Thank you.

Falls classes are for individuals who are what’s commonly referred to as ‘falls risk.’ So at risk of falling. In the classes, you do physio and exercises to improve your balance and muscle tone etc

Had I been allowed to rebuild my body when erosion began in my knees I would have done it right away instead of choosing meds.

Marie you are amazing, so much to have to and had to deal with. I found my falls clinic so helpful, as having many surgeries I wasn’t quite the person body wise as I was. Still waiting for a back op, 10 months now. The shoulders are joining in. I love your spirit. All best wishes x
