Christmas Night Out

So here I am on my Christmas night out with my work. While everyone is busy having fun I am in my room of our hotel with a swelling on my shoulder the size of a golf ball, right on the joint we're the arm connects to the shoulder. I was diagnosed with RA

18 months ago, been on mtx, hydroxy and sulfasaline ever since. Had a few flares but nothing as painful and swollen as this one tonight, far from home, no pain killers, feeling sorry for myself. It's a long time till sunrise. Question is does this really painful swelling mean my medication is no longer working?

Probably I would give your Rheumy team a call when you get home xxx

It might be that you have bumped it or pulled the muscle. You might just need a steroid injection in it. I wouldn’t jump straight to the conclusion that your medication is no longer working, however I would suggest giving your rheumatology team a call for some advice or go to a walk in centre and tell a colleague you can trust so you are not suffering alone while you are away from home. Thank you x

You really should have taken your pain killers away with you. If it was me, I would ring through to reception & ask if they have a first aider as I think hotels have to now. They could at least give you some sort of pain relief & even if it is only paracetamol it would be better than nothing.

Hope you soon feel much better & that the swelling goes down. I get big swellings under my knees but the rheumatologist doesn’t seem concerned about them.

Ella_12 oh bless you nothing worse being away from home on a work do and all you want is to be home if feeling bad. Might make you smile I was at a work conference this week and 4am got a fire alarm call, so frantically in a stiff joint RA way got in to my trousers ,cardigan and phone and as I got to the door grabbed my pills. 3 staircases down with an older boy in front of me and me cussing like a trooper (as my knees were not ready to be woken up) the alarm stops. So turn around and stagger back up the stairwell with both me and the old boy by now cussing too.

So I keep my friends close and my pills closer!

Spent rest of week with knee pain as knees don't like stairs!

You have made me smile Deeb2908 this morning. Two items I will always take with me when staying away from home - dressing gown and pain relief medication to hand just in case they are testing the fire alarm where I am staying that night. Joking aside it is not so funny for us whose limbs take time to work when woken. Take Care.
