Strength and balance classes

Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone has done these classes with physios?

I’m due to start next week. I have RA and fibro. Did they help? I’m just worried about flare ups. She put me through my paces yesterday and today I feel drained and just want to sleep. It may be because I’m 66 😂. My balance is very poor so it would be wonderful to help that. Thanks

I would stick with it if you can as I'm sure it will help. I do a weekly pilates class led by a physio and often have to drag myself there but always feel better for it ... mentally if not physically!

I'm 64 btw 😉

Last year our village had a seniors’ gym class that was led by a physio and was focused on balance and flexibility. It was great!

I also do pilates which helps a lot. Yes you can feel tired, but its a good tired and over time exercise gives you energy.

That's a lovely opportunity. Just try and be aware of how your body feels to try and not overdo it. And take care if you have a flare. The physio will advise you.

I would love to find a class like that to help my leg strength and balance.

I hope the classes benefit you x

It will absolutely help. Just remember that in the beginning, you might have some extra pain - but its muscular pain. Remember that everyone who starts an exercise program of any time, 100% healthy people, will experience some muscle pain when they begin. it is NOT a sign of doing damage, and it is NOT a flare. Its just your body adjusting and it will pass quickly. You just have to stick with it. All the best to you!

Hi, any pain you will feel will be a gain! The strength and balance classes should be available for us all, I attend one in the local gym and it has really helped with strength but the gain in my balance has been amazing!!! Stick with them!!! I hope they help you as much as they’ve helped me.

I am 66 as well and have been going to cardiac rehab for two and a half years - usually 3 times a week. Having the RA as well certainly didn't help to begin with but now my strength and balance are so much better. The only painkiller I'm on is Co-dydramol as and when I need it. Stick with it, at least for a while. It also wears me out and I'm not usually much good for anything else for the rest of the day, but exercise is worth it, whatever type it is. Good luck.

I just spoke to my GP and they sent me to physio. They decided to send me to balance classes so I waited for a spot. Had my initial appointment did loads of stuff. ECG blood pressure height weight etc. met Aleex who started me off in some exercises. Hope you can get the information needed to see if it’s for you

Thank you so much everyone

Hi, go for it. I did a short Tai Chi couse via my Physio and found it really helped my balance. I felt much more confident afterwards.
