drug knowledge?

My recently diagnosed 15 yr old daughter has just started on Etoricoxib today, anybody else had anything to do with this...? She`s feeling horribly nauseaus so far....x

Hi, I've been reading your blogs about your daughter, it's awful having a child with a serious debilitation condition. I really feel for you and her.

Etoricoxib is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat RA, Osteo-arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis. It's both painkiller and anti-inflammatory so hopefully it will give your daughter some respite from pain.

Hello,

I've not used this NSAID but I have used others that have made me feel queasy. As you will discover people with RA frequently have to take a second set of drugs to help with the side effects of the first set. If the nausea continues speak to your GP about it as there are other NSAIDs she can take instead, or anti-nausea and stomach protectors she could take alongside. Polly

I was diagnosed last July and immediately started on Etoricoxib. I was taking 60mg per day, it does help with the pain and inflammation. The only thing I can say about it is i was very bloated with it and did feel nauseus but I was also taking Hydroxychloriquine which is a DMARD but i put then nausea down to that as I also had terrible headache. I had to stop taking it and I am now taking Methotrexate.

It must be awful for you and your daughter and it is a long road before they get the meds right. I am just now coming out at the other end and have felt the best I have since early last year. My DAS score is right down and the inflammation is at bay. My Rheumy team have been excellent although all the appointments, scans, blood tests, medication does take its toll. I really struggled to accept it as I have never been ill before and I kept thinking it will just go away. The problem is it never goes away but the right medication can control it and hopefully if they get it early enough it will cause minimal or no damage. That is their objective.

Keep blogging as you will get lots of support on here and many people have different experiences to share with you. I have never been one for blogs but this has certainly helped me to come to terms with it as I dont know anyone who has this and most people think it is the same as Osteo which it isn't (I thought it was myself at first)

I take arcoxia without feeling nausea but everyone is diffferent.. she should take it with food unless she has been prescribed a stomach protectant medication( this medication is less agressive on the stomach than standard nsaids however)

Thanks all, she says the nauseau isn`t too bad now, alas she`s only made school 1 day this last week though, wasn`t too bad friday afternoon, but has slept most of ths afternoon again. Her `emergency` referral appt at James Cook Hospital isn`t until April 11th. Our GP`s have been great tho. xx

Well, Sunday night is here again, will Ellie make school 5 days this week I wonder? This is her GCSE year so she is panicking, but work gets sent home so hoping all will be well.

She`s horrendously pale & a lot more short tempered, which i`m guessing is down to the diagnosis & is totally understandable. It`s a pain having to wait until April 11th to get to the Rheumatology Clinic at James Cook...did anyone else wait ages from diagnosis?

I`m just feeling so helpless & am being a pain getting her to eat more fruit, vege, proteins etc etc !!

Do any of the `younger` RA crew know of any sites aimed at teens? We...well I have had a look at the Arthritis Care site & they sent great info out, just wondering if there are any others?

Well, am sat here with a rather large G&T 1001 questions swimming around & add to my `list` to ask at the hospital!

Back to our GP in a week & a half as the 90mg Etoricixib that she is on, once a day is an adults dose & she can`t be on it for too long...so what happens then?!

Next `blog i`ll just list questions shall I ??!!
