Hi has anyone been to a RA Dr and they haven’t been able to understand the scores?..This happened to me Monday and hasn’t given me much confidence.

Why don't you pop into the Osteoporosis thread healthunlocked.com/bonehealth and post them on there? Lots of experienced membere who can explain your scores to you. Or visit theros.org.uk/information-and-support/free-osteoporosis-helpline/

A T score of ‘0’ means your score is in the middle of the average range; a positive score (+1 etc) would mean you are ‘above average’, and a negative score (-1) would mean you are below average. The larger the negative number of the T score, the lower is your bone density level compared to average. For instance, a T score of -3.5 is lower than -2.5.

‘Osteopenia’ and ‘osteoporosis’ are terms used, in bone density scanning, to describe how far below average a score is:

‘Normal ‘T score is from + 1 to -1

‘Osteopenia’ is the term used for a T score from -1 to -2.5

’Osteoporosis’ is the term used for a T score of -2.5 and below theros.org.uk/media/98917/c...

Hope this explains & your score isn't a negative but if it is it's a low score. I've been on low dose steroids 6 years, am prescribed daily Adcal-D3, no bisphosphonate, have DEXA scans biennially & my T score has remained in the osteopenia range. In fact my last score was an improvement which I can only put down to diet as nothing else has changed.

Thanks for your reply on a letter I have from the consultant who I saw re my Cushings he put on -3.3 abnormally low.. also a orthopaedic dr I saw in June knew the scores straight away and sent a letter to my gp saying that I needed to be under a consultant ASAP.. Then he didn’t understand them I think it’s best if I asked to be referred to someone else. Thank you for your information.

Oh. Have you had any fractures, broken bones? I think you need more specific advice. Have you done as Poems suggested & contacted HU Bonehealth (the link she gave)?

Ok. Not sure about little bones like toes. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to help you over there, better than us. I hope you receive the advice you need & wish you all the best.

Hi there, Ask for your “Z” score as well. Your “T” score compares your results to a 30 year old woman whereas your “Z” score compares your results to women of the same age, and is, to me, much more meaningful.

Best wishes, Teresa
