Hi Sammie, is that to do with Lupus? I haven’t heard of it before. If you look on the Lupus forum on HealthUnlocked you will probably find someone who has had the same result.

Yep! A positive ANA can be indicative of any number of autoimmune disorders, but there are other tests that can help narrow your search for a specific illness and the appropriate treatment.

I was initially diagnosed with Lupus, but 5 years and 3 rheumatologists later, the diagnosis changed to ankylosing spondylitis. Go figure. The meds are too expensive, so I’m taking a holistic approach. Good luck!

I had a positive ana last year so my gp referred me to rheumatologist as she felt I had a connective tissue disease. However when I saw the rheumatologist and after she examined me she felt it was more arthritis so she done a lot of blood work just to rule out lupus etc. I was then diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. She also told me that sometimes healthy people can test positive for ana but have nothing wrong with them. If you have other symptoms you could maybe have an overlap of autoimmune diseases. The lupus health unlocked is very good you should take a nosy on it regardless whether you have lupus or not as you will find good information on positive ana blood results.

Have you had your VitD checked.....some drugs can also give a false +ANA result.

What has been recommended?

I’’m sure your doctor will be checking..but give him/her a shove if no answers are forthcoming.

The ANA test is in indicator of autoimmune disease. Its not uncommon for it to be positive if you have RA. People often associate it with Lupus, but it may be positive for many autoimmune diseases, as others have said. By itself, it means nothing at all. In combination with your signs and symptoms and medical history, a positive ANA will support your rheumatologist in making a final diagnosis. Inflammatory arthritis IS a connective tissue disease, they are one and the same thing.
