Why I don’t mind if my Consultant is running late.

I’m guessing we’ve heard this at some point “sorry but the consultant is running late today”

When first diagnosed it really used to annoy me when I had to wait long after my allotted time to see my consultant. It never entered my head that people and the consultant had so many questions to ask regarding their health and wellbeing, and that could mean both physical and mental health.

I’ve come to realise that people recently diagnosed and who are going through flares need the time with the consultant to allay their fears.

So now if it happens and to be fair it doesn’t very often, I take the time to chat with other people as well as the nurses.

By the way in my opinion, I have the most fantastic consultant ever.

Your right, perhaps we should start showing our appreciation a little bit more.

I'm ok with waiting a bit longer to be seen for my appointment, we have probably all been there at some point, needing a little extra time.

For me its more about the quality of the care once I'm actually in the consutling room.

I don't mind waiting however long it takes, because I know that my consultant will spend all the time necessary with me as well. She will work through her lunch and overtime in the evening. Who am I to get annoyed?

It's so easy for me to get stressed and annoyed by this, but thanks for putting things in perspective. When I was diagnosed everything just began to go in slow motion and I know that I needed those extra 30 mins to process and ask the questions I need to. Have a great week, all of you!
