Hi all was wondering if anyone takes azathioprine? If so, do you always take this with food? Or can you take it without/on an empty stomach?

I generally used to take mine after my evening meal. After 4 to 6 weeks the side effects went. It was a good drug for me until I had to come off as it was making me anemic. I'm now on mmf.

I was on it for 31 years, always after breakfast. Was a great drug for me. X

I’ve been taking it for 4 years. I always take it in the evening after my last meal of the day. I’ve had no side effects that I’m aware of. I was put on it because my liver enzymes were elevated for years with no explanation. They are normal now as long as I stay on azathioprine.

I have found that it is best for me to take it with food. If I forget and take it without food, the nausea is worse.

I take an half of tablet before going to bed daily. I haven't had any issues or side effects. I take most of my meds at night it seems to keep me from being nauseous or drowsy during the day.
