They should be taken with food, amd best not at the same time as stomach protectors. I take my stomach protectors first thing, and then the Sulpha with my breakfast a couple of hours later. Take them with water , and drink lots of water during the day too, especially to start with.

Thank you everyone, my pain hasn't been too bad later, then you question if you need to take the tablets and you get scared they will make me ill.I have been putting them off and putting them off, its two weeks Thursday I was given them to take.so can't leave it any longer

If remember properly, sulfasazine has fewer side effects than something like methotrexate.

It will make your urine and sweat yellow so avoid wearing light coloured clothes and it can make you sensitive to the sun.

I had few if any other side effects. I was on up to 6 tablets and split the dose breakfast, mid-afternoon and bedtime with no problems.

I hope it works for you and you have no problems.

You may have the usual side effects in the first couple of months - dizziness and nausea were mine! But they have almost gone now thankfully as all I could do pretty much was lie down.

Hope they work for you :)

second day all fine, no side effects as yet, felt a bit groggy last night but that might have nothing to do with it

I take the coated ones been on sulfasalazine for 3 years now after failing to take methotrexate. I take 2 after breakfast and the other 2 after my evening meal, have no side effects works great me for me. May turn your urine yellow but this is nothing to be concerned about, it’s totally normal with sulfasalazine. Hope the med works well for you to good luck

my eyes underneath are puffy baggy and pinky, could it be the med? still on just one,its putting me off taking todays one, can you take a day off taking it?

I ate a bit of cake birthday cake and a cheese roll yesterday was a lot more pain for it last night, could it have been that? what do you think guys?

Some people react badly to fatty food, like cake and cheese. Others don't so you have to work out what suits you.

If you are on your third day of taking one pill a day it's unlikely to be the cause of puffy eyes.....might it be the birthday party instead?

And it is always recommended that you take your pills regularly and don't skip (unless doctor tells you to). They need to build up in your body and won't do anything if you take them too erratically.

Thank you helixhelix, I am on day 6 of the tablets,I feel awful today, like I have a cold inside and yucky throat

also just beneath my ribs it feels like I am bruised if that makes sense, more on right side

It's difficult, as it's hard to describe the difference between temporary side effects that will often wear off after days or weeks, and things that are bad reactions to drugs that you need to flag up with your medical team. And when we start new drugs we often are aware of every tiny twinge and niggle that normally wouldn't bother us.

But if you really feel ill then you should go to your GP to be checked out.

I stopped this drug today, I have never felt so ill, I felt I couldn't breath, kicked everywhere

upset stomach very bad, in a lot of pain even more so, I spent the whole day yesterday lying down, so after two days of feeling very ill and getting worse, I stop taking this drug

I rang the hosptail and told them why

today still don't feel 100 percent but better than the last few days, my insides still feel battered but it will take a while to get out of my system

Hi Veronica I have just seen your post as I have only just joined today, I am due to start sulfazeine and like you - I am very nervous! I know everyone reacts differently to drugs - I was just wondering how you are getting on now you have stopped the drug - have they given you an alternative?

Hi Shell190, Iam sorry to say it didn't go well for me, 7 days in I was very ill, allergy rash on my face and body and felt I couldn't breath, I am having a bit of a break now to decide which one next

but I hope it works well for you xx
