Any one on here suffer from Blepharitis? What started off as gritty sore eyes has now become Blepharitis. Any comments as to how you deal with it welcome. I am using the baby shampoo to clean my eyes, and awaiting eye heat mask to arrive, the clinitas drops worked for my eyes, but not for the surrounding skin, made my eyes quite sore.

I was diagnosed with this last week! Optician recommended Blephisol to clean my lids night and morning. She also said I should lightly massage my lids with circular motions. I would be interested to know how you get on with the heat mask.

Hi Callabag64.

I developed Blepharitis earlier this year and have found that simple cleaning with a warm clean flannel first to clean eyes in the morning, then leaving a warm flannel on my eyes for a few minutes, then gently rubbing/massaging my eye lids with the warm flannel has kept it under control. I usually do this in the morning and at bed time and it has improved massively. Hope yours does too.

All the best.

Yes I have had problems with my eyes .I use a hot flannel I the shower, Hycosan fresh ,eye drops ,optician says it has an anti inflammatory action . I also have Xailin gel and Xailin night.

I have had eye ulcers as well and athe first sign of gritty eyes I get using the Xailin .

Hope this helps.

I have found the optician helpful on how best to manage this. I use baby shampoo for crusting - but I haven't had that for ages now looking after them carefully. But I was told at my last appointment that it is no longer advised as it can remove the natural lubrication - but that doesn't seem logical to me as obviously that's not being produced anyway. For the eyelids, I use the same cream as I use for my skin as I found the Vaseline I was advised to use was too sticky. And eyedrops frequently to stop me getting gritty watery eyes.

I have this and use eyelid wipes and heat eye mask, got both from optician.

Make sure you clean right up under the eyelashes x

Posted this yesterday but it hasn’t appeared. I too have blephritis and discovered to my horror, it is caused by microscopic bugs! I have visions of these little creatures crawling about my eyelids!

I have this too and have to visit the eye clinic regularly. I was told that using baby shampoo is no longer recommended and that it is better to use a teaspoon of bi-carbonate of soda melted in a mug of warm water to bathe the eyes. Then use a heat pack and then massage all around eyes in a circular motion. I have been doing this and it helps just a tiny bit but not much. I also use Hylo Forte drops 4 times a day, clinitas gel 3 times a day and VitA-Pos eye ointment before going to sleep at night. I also use cleansing pads that I buy from my optician about three times a week.

1/2 pint cooled boiled water add 1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda. Next get 2 cotton buds, one for each eye. Where you would normally put eye liner, the area where the eye lashes meet the lids, known as the lid margin, you give a firm scrubbing to, you need to do top and bottom eyelids. The lid scrubbing helps clean off anything on the eyelashes but just as importantly along the lid margins you have glands so by doing the scrubbing helps to stimulate the glands so you get a better tear film as well. You need to do this twice a day for about 6 weeks to get on top of things then daily. You never totally get rid of blepharitis but you learn how to control it. Finally lubricate the eye with a preservative free eye drop the one we at work recommend is HydraMed. Good luck.

Hi callabag64, I was diagnosed with blephartis in my left eye about 4 months ago. The optician was very helpful and advised me to buy a heat mask ( I use one produced by a Dr Hilary jones bought on Amazon) and use this 3 times a day . This really helps a lot with relieving the irritation and i feel much better afterwards. I then massage the eyelids and clean them with an eye cleaner ( I use blephasol pads). I have now discovered I have a blocked tear duct and the blepharitis has come back so I am getting very fed up. However I would really recommend the heat pad.

Hi there, just got my eye mask last week, and have not used it fully yet. Also using Blephaclean cleaning pads, but eyelids sore, I used to suffer from allergic reactions with eye make up so what helps my eyes does not usually help my skin on my eyes. Had this problem since March, 4 visits to opthamologist at hospital, and 2 to gp and still not fixed. I am also fed up.
